{"id":17230,"date":"2020-12-22T16:17:39","date_gmt":"2020-12-22T16:17:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=17230"},"modified":"2020-12-22T16:17:40","modified_gmt":"2020-12-22T16:17:40","slug":"faa-begins-scoping-period-for-environmental-review-at-spacex-launch-site-in-texas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/texas\/faa-begins-scoping-period-for-environmental-review-at-spacex-launch-site-in-texas\/%20","title":{"rendered":"FAA Begins Scoping Period for Environmental Review at SpaceX Launch Site in Texas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is holding a\npublic scoping period for the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) related to\nplans by SpaceX to apply for licenses for suborbital and orbital launches of\nits Starship\/Super Heavy project at its facility in Boca Chica, Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The scoping period will help the FAA in determine the scope\nof issues for analysis in the draft EA. The FAA requests public comments on\npotential alternatives and impacts, and identification of any relevant\ninformation, studies, or analyses of any kind concerning impacts affecting the\nquality of the human environment. The FAA also invites comments on its\nconsideration of preparing a Programmatic EA for this effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deadline to submit comments is January 22, 2021 and may\nbe submitted to the following email address: spacexbocachica@icf.com.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The proposed update to Starship\/Super Heavy operations falls\noutside of the scope of the existing final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)\nand Record of Decision for the Boca Chica launch site and requires additional\nenvironmental review under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). SpaceX\nis working with the FAA to prepare a draft EA which will be subject to the\nFAA\u2019s evaluation and approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EA will allow the FAA to determine the appropriate\ncourse of action: preparation of an EIS because the proposed action\u2019s\nenvironmental impacts would be significant; issuance of a Finding of No\nSignificant Impact (FONSI); or issuance of a \u201cMitigated FONSI\u201d providing for\nmitigation measures to address the proposed action\u2019s environmental impacts.
