In an official letter to airport operators,\nconsultants and colleagues, Eagerton said, \u201cIt has been a privilege to work\nwith you to improve Alabama\u2019s airport system. I am also proud to have\nrepresented Alabama at the national level as an active member of the National\nAssociation of State Aviation Officials (NASAO).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_9970edit2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17175\" width=\"304\" height=\"242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_9970edit2.jpg 500w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_9970edit2-300x238.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 304px) 100vw, 304px\" \/><figcaption>D<em>r. John Eagerton addresses attendees at the NASAO Conference in Alabama. <br>Photo by Kim Stevens.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>U.S. Senator, Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), recognized Dr.\nEagerton\u2019s retirement by stating that he is a longtime champion of aviation and\naerospace both in Alabama and on the national level. \u201cOver the years, he has\nbeen a partner in shaping aviation-forward policy and advancing economic\ndevelopment throughout our state. I congratulate him on his retirement after\nserving nearly five decades in influential capacities, most recently as the\nhead of the Alabama Department of Transportation\u2019s Aeronautics Bureau.\u201d Senator\nShelby noted that Dr. Eagerton\u2019s service to Alabama and the larger aviation\ncommunity has been unwavering. \u201cWe are indebted to him for his work and its\nresulting impact.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working together, Eagerton said they have accomplished many\nprojects that substantially improved the safety and accessibility of airports\nthroughout the state. \u201cAirports have become an integral part of the state\u2019s\ntransportation system and the economic growth of our rural and urban\ncommunities during the past twenty-seven years,\u201d noted Eagerton. \u201cI have\nthoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate with you. As a pilot for\nnearly 50 years, it has been extremely rewarding to serve the aviation\ncommunity too.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frank Farmer, current Aeronautics Manager, will become the\nChief of the Aeronautics Bureau upon Dr. Eagerton\u2019s retirement. \u201cFrank and I\nhave worked side by side for nearly 25 years and I am pleased he will be\nstepping into this position,\u201d said Eagerton. \u201cHis appointment as the\nAeronautics Chief will assure a seamless transition that will preserve and\nbuild upon the relationship the bureau has forged with you during the past 27\nyears.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Farmer said it has been a great privilege to work for Dr.\nEagerton all those years, noting that Eagerton\u2019s passion and dedication for\naviation is evident by everyone who knows him. \u201cI will always have the highest\nrespect for him and appreciate all he has done for me and the Alabama airport\nsystem,\u201d said Farmer. \u201cIt is an honor for me to be appointed as his successor,\nand I look forward to continuing the progress we have made with Alabama\u2019s\nairport system and serving the aviation industry in this capacity.\u201d Farmer said\nthe industry is facing many challenges during this unprecedented time and we\nmust all work harder than ever to navigate the difficulties we are facing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/\\wp-content\\uploads\/John Eagertonedit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3959\" width=\"109\" height=\"137\"\/><figcaption><em>Dr. John Eagerton<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In closing, Eagerton wrote that the relationships he has established\nover the years have been the most gratifying part of serving in this position. \u201cI\nwill miss that,\u201d concluded Eagerton. \u201cFrom an early age I learned to always\nleave the woodpile a little higher than I found it.
