Now in its sixth year, the annual online giving campaign\nruns from December 1-31, 2020. Individuals can learn about the campaign, select\nan aircraft to support, and make a donation at www.SupportCAF.org.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recognized as the world\u2019s largest flying museum, the\nCommemorative Air Force maintains a fleet of over 170 World War II aircraft,\nmore than 70 percent of which are airworthy. The \u201c12 Planes of Christmas\u201d\ncampaign supports the organization\u2019s efforts, and those of its volunteer\nmembers, to restore the historic warbirds in preparation for flight and tours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/P40-Warhawk.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17101\" width=\"245\" height=\"193\"\/><figcaption><em>P-40 Warhawk<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMaintaining flying warbirds is one thing that sets the CAF\napart from other aviation museums,\u201d said Hank Coates, CAF president and CEO.\n\u201cBy flying these airplanes, displaying them at events, and allowing people to\nride and tour them, we preserve and honor the legacy of the people who built,\nmaintained and flew them during World War II.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each year, twelve aircraft from the CAF\u2019s fleet are selected\nto be featured during the \u201c12 Planes of Christmas\u201d campaign. With the variety of aircraft showcased and the stories these aircraft\nrepresent, our hope is that many individuals will be inspired to contribute.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CAF does not receive government funding to restore and\npreserve these iconic aircraft. The airplanes are funded by ride revenue,\naircraft appearance fees, but mostly by generous individual and corporate\ndonations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the \u201c12 Planes of Christmas\u201d campaign, donations\ncan also be directed to the CAF\u2019s Restoration Grant Fund. Established in 2008,\nthis matching grant fund doubles individual donations, helping return aircraft\nback to the skies faster. Through this fund, the public can help create\ntributes to the famed Flying Tigers and the Women Airforce Service Pilots\n(WASP), among other efforts.
