The MAP provides funding to help develop\nformer military airports or designated joint-use military airfields for\ncivilian use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program helps increase civilian aviation capacity by\nfinancing projects such as building or repairing parking lots, fuel farms,\nhangars, utility systems, access roads, cargo buildings, and other airfield\nprojects at former military airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MAP is funded by the Airport Improvement Program (AIP).\nCongress has historically appropriated approximately $10 million for this\nprogram. However, the FAA is operating under a Continuing Resolution so the\namount is unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A maximum of 15 airports may participate in the program at\nany one time, including up to three general aviation (GA) airports. Airports\nselected to participate in the MAP may receive federal financial assistance for\none to five years. Currently, there are four airports in the program and three\nslots are available for GA airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 1991, the FAA has funded approximately $753 million\nfor a MAP projects.
