{"id":16593,"date":"2020-10-08T12:38:49","date_gmt":"2020-10-08T12:38:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=16593"},"modified":"2020-10-08T12:38:51","modified_gmt":"2020-10-08T12:38:51","slug":"nbaa-honors-pilots-monnier-downs-with-inaugural-airmanship-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/national-news\/nbaa-honors-pilots-monnier-downs-with-inaugural-airmanship-award\/%20","title":{"rendered":"NBAA Honors Pilots Monnier, Downs with Inaugural Airmanship Award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) recognized\ndual-engine flameout pilots Bruce Monnier and Gerald Downs with its first-ever\nNBAA Above and Beyond Airmanship Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The award, which was created by NBAA\u2019s Safety Committee to\nrecognize action taken to avoid injury, loss of life or catastrophic business\naircraft damage, was presented during a Safety Town Hall, which took place\nduring NBAA\u2019s first-ever Virtual Safety Week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An airline transport pilot, flight instructor and captain\nfor Air Trek, Inc. with over 4,000 hours, Monnier was captain and pilot for the\nflight that experienced a dual-engine flame-out from diesel-exhaust\ncontamination. He worked with Downs \u2013 an airline transport pilot with more than\n10,000 hours, instructor and holding ratings in fixed-wing, helicopter, glider\nand gyroplane aircraft over his 48-year aviation career \u2013 to dead-stick the\nairplane\u2019s landing into Savannah\/Hilton Head International Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNBAA is honored to present Bruce Monnier and Gerald Downs\nwith the first NBAA Above and Beyond Airmanship Award in recognition of their\nprofessionalism and bravery,\u201d said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. \u201cTheir\nstory is inspirational to everyone in the business aviation industry, and a\nreminder of the importance in always keeping safety in the forefront.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the awards presentation, the Safety Town Hall\nfeatured a conversation among King Schools co-founders John and Martha King,\nAircraft Owners and Pilots Association Air Safety Institute Senior Vice\nPresident Richard McSpadden, along with and Monnier and Downs, about the skills\nthat keep the safety chain from breaking.
