Ralph Northam has proclaimed October as General\nAviation Appreciation Month in the Commonwealth.&nbsp; The proclamation recognizes the importance of\ngeneral aviation and its role as an economic driver that improves the quality\nof life for all Virginians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mark-Flynnedit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10023\" width=\"139\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mark-Flynnedit.jpg 500w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mark-Flynnedit-232x300.jpg 232w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 139px) 100vw, 139px\" \/><figcaption><em>Mark Flynn<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are honored that Governor Northam has recognized General\nAviation in such a public way,\u201d said Mark Flynn, director of the Virginia\nDepartment of Aviation.&nbsp; \u201cGA is a\nsignificant economic driver for Virginia; it connects Virginians to the rest of\nthe world, and is a key indicator of our overall quality of life in the\nCommonwealth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The text of the proclamation issued today reads:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports play a\ncritical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our\nbusinesses and farms; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WHEREAS, according to the Virginia Department of Aviation,\nthere are 57 public-use general aviation facilities in the state, which serve\n15,548 pilots and 5,263 registered aircraft; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WHEREAS, according to the Virginia Department of Aviation,\non-airport output in the Commonwealth of Virginia supports 6,119 jobs, a\npayroll of more than $361 million, and total economic output of nearly $1.1\nbillion per year; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/VA-Proc-2020edit-592x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16576\" width=\"173\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/VA-Proc-2020edit-592x1024.jpg 592w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/VA-Proc-2020edit.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 173px) 100vw, 173px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>WHEREAS, the Commonwealth is home to 46 aircraft repair\nstations, 13 Federal Aviation Administration-approved flight schools, 4,451\nstudent pilots, and 3,046 certified flight instructors; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Virginia\u2019s\neconomy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical\nand healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and\ninvestments in sustainable fuels and technologies, and by transporting business\ntravelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WHEREAS, Virginia\u2019s aviation infrastructure represents an\nimportant public benefit, and direct investment in this critical infrastructure\nensures future economic growth and the preparation of our next generation of\naviation professionals, pilots, mechanics, and air traffic controllers;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S. Northam, do hereby recognize\nOctober 2020 as GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA,\nand I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gov.
