{"id":16550,"date":"2020-09-29T19:37:10","date_gmt":"2020-09-29T19:37:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=16550"},"modified":"2020-09-29T19:37:12","modified_gmt":"2020-09-29T19:37:12","slug":"industry-stakeholder-groups-urge-u-s-department-of-transportation-to-issue-performance-based-uas-remote-id-final-rule-without-delay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/unmanned-systems\/industry-stakeholder-groups-urge-u-s-department-of-transportation-to-issue-performance-based-uas-remote-id-final-rule-without-delay\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Industry Stakeholder Groups Urge U.S. Department of Transportation to Issue Performance Based UAS Remote ID Final Rule Without Delay"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International\n(AUVSI) joined with the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) and the U.S.\nChamber\u2019s Technology Engagement Center (C_TEC) to encourage the U.S. Department\nof Transportation (DOT) to hold fast to the intended December 2020 release of\nthe rulemaking on Remote Identification (ID) for unmanned aerial systems (UAS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The industry groups called on U.S. DOT Secretary Elaine Chao\nand Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Steve Dickson to\ncontinue with a timely rulemaking process, given the rule\u2019s critical step in\nfuture UAS regulation and broader industry growth. The letter went on to note\nthat the rule should be performance based, stating, \u201cGiven our broad scope of\nstakeholders across many sectors of our economy, we understand the importance\nof allowing UAS technology to evolve and grow, and not to have growth hindered\nby prescriptive regulatory requirements. As such, we also urge the Department\nto support a final rule that sets performance requirements, rather that\nspecifying particular solutions for Remote ID compliance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The unmanned vehicle industry already plays an increasingly\nessential role in American life, supporting infrastructure inspection, in\nagriculture, disaster relief, and public safety. This has especially been true\nin the last seven months during the COVID-19 pandemic. Companies have begun\ntransporting medical specimens and supplies via drone; people in remote\nlocations are receiving prescriptions via unmanned aerial system; and the\nsector is poised for continued growth and job creation.
