{"id":16501,"date":"2020-09-22T22:26:34","date_gmt":"2020-09-22T22:26:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=16501"},"modified":"2020-09-22T22:29:46","modified_gmt":"2020-09-22T22:29:46","slug":"d-day-squadron-officially-launches-the-dc-3-society-to-strengthen-participation-with-operators-crew-enthusiasts-students-and-historians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/international-news\/d-day-squadron-officially-launches-the-dc-3-society-to-strengthen-participation-with-operators-crew-enthusiasts-students-and-historians\/%20","title":{"rendered":"D-Day Squadron Officially Launches the DC-3 Society to Strengthen Participation with Operators, Crew, Enthusiasts, Students and Historians"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Photo above by Mike Killian<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Days shy of flying the Arsenal of Democracy in Washington,\nD.C., the D-Day Squadron has officially launched its well awaited DC-3 Society.\nHaving met each flyover mission, outreach event, airshow performance and\ndisplay with success since their inception four years ago, the operators and\ncrew of these historic DC-3s began to experience a growing volume of interest\nin this legendary aircraft, as well, the many veterans in which it represents.\nWith a mission to organize the interest of DC-3 operators, enthusiasts and crew\nwhile maintaining airworthiness and displays for future generations, the DC-3\nSociety also focuses on representing everything the DC-3 has accomplished in\nwar and peace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mike-Killianedit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16503\" width=\"292\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mike-Killianedit.jpg 750w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mike-Killianedit-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 292px) 100vw, 292px\" \/><figcaption><em>Photo by Mike Killian<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am privileged to be associated with the DC-3 Society.\nThis launch represents the culmination of hundreds of volunteer hours. We are all\npassionate about the history these aircraft embody and the legacy that they\nrepresent,\u201d expressed Paul Bazeley, owner of Aerometal International, the first\naffiliate partner to the society, and founding DC-3 operator member. \u201cAs chair\nof the maintenance committee, I look forward to being involved in further\nefforts with the society to safeguard the ongoing preservation and operation of\nthese historic machines.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notably over the years, the D-Day Squadron witnessed a\nplethora of young people whose minds and curiosity sparked with the site of a\nDC-3. At events, airshows and through displays, various DC-3s get a chance to\nshowcase its legendary aeronautical design, agility in flight and unique\nability to educate the public, of all ages, how it served major events in our\nworld history. It\u2019s not just a DC-3, it\u2019s flying history! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI feel that it is necessary to ensure that young children\nand students understand World War II and our nation\u2019s history as a whole,\u201d\nshared Michael Naya, Jr., a freshman studying history at Kean University,\nUnion. \u201cIn the words of George Santayana, \u2018Those who cannot learn from history\nare doomed to repeat it.\u2019 I feel that we often go throughout our lives thinking\nwe did very little although that is not true. Every individual young and old\nhas a story!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"599\" height=\"250\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Joshua-Lapumedit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16504\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Joshua-Lapumedit.jpg 599w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Joshua-Lapumedit-300x125.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px\" \/><figcaption><em>Photo by Joshua Lapum<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the work of the DC-3 Society, a Young Historians\nprogram was established under the D-Day Squadron to continue sharing the\ncompelling stories of the DC-3 and our veterans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;To be a founding member of the Young Historians Program\nis a true honor, as well, preserving the memories of our final World War II\nveterans has been a privilege\u201d, Naya added.&nbsp;\n\u201cTo be a historian alongside the D-Day Squadron is one of the most\nimportant opportunities I\u2019ve been given. All of those involved with the D-Day\nSquadron are in turn writing their own stories and thus making history and an\nimpact along the way.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the new DC-3 Society, members will have access to\na private web forum, tailored support for aircraft airworthiness and maintenance,\nprivate Facebook Group access, special gifts from the D-Day Squadron,\nnewsletter, invitation to special events, as well, product and service\ndiscounts through an industry affiliate partner program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"401\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/John-Sponaueredit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16505\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/John-Sponaueredit.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/John-Sponaueredit-300x120.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption><em>Photo by John Sponauer<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur veterans are our window to the past, and developing a\nstronger force behind the DC-3 is a chance for us to continue honoring those\nwho made sacrifices for the freedoms we have today,\u201d shared Lauren Roberts,\nmembership coordinator for the DC-3 Society and veteran of the business\naviation sector. \u201cOur members not only benefit from their participation in our\nDC-3 type society, they are a part of making history come to life, for young to\nelder audiences we are engaged.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DC-3 Society encourages all people, no matter their background, involvement or interest in aviation, to consider joining the society.
