Nebraska will be awarded more than $7 million in federal\ngrants through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and Coronavirus Aid,\nRelief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, to support the state\u2019s aviation\nsystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Airport Improvement Program is a United States federal\ngrant program that provides funds to public use airports to help improve safety\nand efficiency and strengthen the nation\u2019s aviation infrastructure. Prior to\nthe September announcement Nebraska airports had received over $18 million in\nAIP funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNebraska\u2019s transportation system, our airports and air\ncapabilities greatly impact the economic health and quality of life of the\nstate,\u201d said NDOT Director Kyle Schneweis. \u201cI want to thank the Trump\nAdministration and the Nebraska Federal Delegation for recognizing the impact\nand supporting aviation. Not only will this funding provide airports with\nneeded safety improvements it will also fund NDOT\u2019s Aviation System Plan to\nhelp us evaluate the aviation needs of the state and help grow Nebraska.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ann Richart, Director of Aeronautics, explained \u201cAIP grants\nare vital to Nebraska airports. This year especially, airports are struggling\nwith revenue shortfalls resulting from COVID-19 and these grants will help\nsupport needed improvements. Additionally, this last AIP round includes the\nfinal grant, of two, which will fund our State Aviation System Plan. The plan\nwill pave the way for Nebraska\u2019s aviation future by setting measurable goals\nfor the Nebraska aviation system, identifying aviation current needs, and recognizing\nfuture needs. The plan will be developed through public input and expert\ntechnical analysis.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
