U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao announced that 405\nairports nationwide \u2013 to include several U.S. territories \u2013 will split a total\nof $1.2 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"410\" height=\"273\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/ROA-aerial.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16340\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ROA-aerial.jpg 410w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ROA-aerial-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 410px) 100vw, 410px\" \/><figcaption> <em>Roanoke\u2013Blacksburg Regional<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0<em>Airport<\/em> <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis $1.2 billion federal investment will improve our\nnation\u2019s airport infrastructure, enhance safety, and strengthen growth in local\ncommunities, which is especially important as the economy recovers from\nCOVID-19,\u201d said Secretary Chao. The grants are comprised of more than $1\nbillion from the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and $152 million from the\nCoronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. No state or local\nfunding match is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Virginia the funds will support: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The reconstruction of runway lighting at\nTazewell County Airport ($148,000);<\/li><li>Improvements to the terminal building along with\nthe reconstruction of airfield guidance signs, runway<\/li><li>lighting and taxiway lighting at\nCharlottesville\/Albemarle Airport ($606,412);<\/li><li>A runway extension at Virginia Tech\/Montgomery\nExecutive Airport ($1,289,417);<\/li><li>Reconstruction of airfield guidance signs,\nrunway lighting and taxiway lighting at Roanoke\/Blacksburg<\/li><li>Regional Airport ($4,065,070); and<\/li><li>Reconstruction of a runway at Washington Dulles\nInternational Airport ($12,272,026).<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nearly $18.4 million will be shared by five Virginia airports through a Federal Aviation Administration grant for airport safety and infrastructure.
