The small ceremony was attended by (left to right) Mayor Steve Gentling, Senator Chuck Hall, Schellon Stanley, and Representative Gary Mize. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Stanley came to the Guthrie\/Edmond airport in 2015 after\nserving as the Airport Operations Officer at OU Westheimer Airport in Norman.\nIn addition, Stanley served as a Site Manger and instructor at Sooner Flight\nAcademy also in Norman.&nbsp; Stanley holds a\nMasters in Aerospace\/Aviation Management from Oklahoma State University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSchellon has been a tireless worker for the aviation\nindustry providing support to the Aeronautics Commission in various capacities\nand at numerous events such as Oklahoma Women in Aviation and Aerospace Day and\nAERO Oklahoma, which is our industry day held at the Capitol each year during\nthe legislative session. She also hosts a summer camp for school-aged children\nand fly-ins at the airport to bring attention to the possibilities of aviation\nand aerospace careers for kids.&nbsp; We are\nproud of her accomplishments and she is deserving of this honor,\u201d said Victor\nBird, State Director of Aeronautics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airport receiving top billing in the state, has 132\nbased aircraft and is located 30 miles from downtown Oklahoma City and boasts a\n5,001 ft. runway. The airport has greatly improved their infrastructure over\nthe last two decades, and thanks to several major projects, including their\nrunway extension, has seen tremendous growth over that time period unlike any\nairport in Oklahoma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In FY25, the Aeronautics Commission plans to assist the\nairport with a $4.9 million project to relocate the parallel taxiway in order\nto meet FAA runway\/taxiway separation standards to support larger business jet\ntype aircraft and ensuring the airport can meet the needs of commerce and\nindustry for these two Oklahoma communities. Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport is\nused by numerous businesses, including some of Guthrie and Edmond\u2019s top\nemployers such as Lazy E Arena, Zivko Aeronautics, Baron Exploration, John\nVance Auto Group, and Wheels Up Partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/\\wp-content\\uploads\/vic_bird_portrait-HI-RESedit_0.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4226\" width=\"144\" height=\"201\"\/><figcaption><em>Vic Bird<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the aforementioned awards, OAOA President Pat\nHurley honored State Director of Aeronautics, Victor Bird, with the prestigious\nPresident\u2019s award for his service and support of Oklahoma airports for the 18\nyears he\u2019s served as Director. \u201cI\u2019m honored to receive this award from\nOAOA.&nbsp; This association has shown what an\namazing group of airvangelists can do when they come together to help serve the\ngreater aviation community in Oklahoma and help move the airport system\nforward,\u201d said Director Bird.&nbsp; Several\nother individuals received awards for their hard work and success in Oklahoma\naviation.&nbsp; Don Nuzum, Airport Manager for\nthe Ponca City Regional Airport received the Pioneer Award for his\nlong-standing work with the association and with airports across Oklahoma.&nbsp; Don is one of the longest serving active\nairport managers in the association. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the awards, OAOA took action at its annual\nmeeting last month to elect a new round of officers for the upcoming year.&nbsp; Lance Lamkin, Airport Administrator for the\nMax Westheimer Airport in Norman was elected as President, Paul Priegel,\nAirport Director for Stillwater Regional Airport will be Vice President, and\nDrew Saffell, Airport Manager for Muskogee Davis Regional Airport will be\nSecretary.&nbsp; Immediate Past President will\nbe Pat Hurley from the Lawton Ft.
