Landsberg began a five-year appointment as a NTSB board\nmember Aug. 7, 2018, and on that same day began a two-year term as the NTSB\u2019s\nVice Chairman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a privilege to work with staff, fellow Board\nmembers, and the public to improve our national transportation system,\u201d said\nLandsberg. \u201cUnfortunately, there is no shortage of safety opportunities and\nwe\u2019ll be looking at ways to apply some of the systemic approaches that have\nbeen used so successfully in aviation to some of the other modes. We\u2019re working\ntoward the goal of zero deaths in transportation, and until we can achieve that\ngoal, we\u2019re working to reduce the number of deaths and injuries that happen\nevery year in every mode of transportation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBruce brings a wealth of experience to the NTSB with his\nextensive general aviation safety background,\u201d said NTSB Chairman Robert\nSumwalt. \u201cWhile serving as vice chairman during the past two years, Bruce has\nprovided great assistance to me in my role as chairman. I\u2019m delighted that\nPresident Trump has allowed him to continue in that capacity for another three\nyears.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Landsberg, who has more than 7,000 hours piloting aircraft,\nholds an Airline Transport Pilot certificate with instructor ratings for\nairplane single and multi-engine land, instruments and advanced\ninstrument\/ground instructor certificates. A graduate of the University of\nMaryland with both bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degrees, Landsberg also served in\nthe U.S. Air Force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The term of the NTSB\u2019s Chairman and Vice Chairman was\nextended from two-years to three-years by Congress in the NTSB\u2019s October 2018\nreauthorization. Among Landsberg\u2019s priorities from his new term as Vice\nChairman, he wants to see implementation of safety recommendations related to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Reducing distraction and speeding related\nhighway crashes, reliable automation in vehicles, and automated enforcement on\nhighways.<\/li><li>Improved weather forecasts and reduction of\nweather-related aviation crashes through practical and widespread inflight\nweather reporting by pilots<\/li><li>A user-friendly Notices to Airmen System.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Transportation Safety Board\u2019s Vice Chairman Bruce Landsberg was designated Friday to continue to serve in the position for a new term of three years.
