More than 800 military personnel are set to converge on\nSalina and the surrounding area for the next several weeks to participate in\nthe joint-service exercise, Jaded Thunder. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exercise will include joint corps integration by members\nof Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy and Army units, as well as representatives of\nthe U.S. Special Operations Command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The training provided during Jaded Thunder is essential for\nnational defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All participants will comply with detailed COVID-19\nmitigation measures. Exercise participants will maximize social distancing and\nwear face masks. Facilities will be sanitized daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Salina Regional Airport’s close proximity to the Smoky\nHill Weapons Range is key for this type of training. Operating from the Salina\nAirport, military units get realistic and efficient training. The less time\npilots spend in the air getting to the training venue, the more time, and fuel,\nthey can spend over the range training with personnel on the ground. The\navailability of the Smoky Hill Weapons Range, coupled with a supportive\ncommunity, make the Salina Airport a preferred location for military training. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Salina residents shouldn’t worry if they hear any loud noise\ncoming from the weapons range. The military will be using training ordnance\nduring the exercise.
