The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced a\nstate commitment of $1.55 million to leverage a total investment of $31 million\nfor airport improvements in Quincy, Rockford and Champaign-Urbana. The\ncommitment by the state will improve safety and boost capacity while furthering\nIDOT\u2019s mission to build and maintain a multimodal transportation network that\nprovides safe, reliable service for all of Illinois.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIllinois is a transportation hub for the nation and our\nairports serve as key economic engines for regions across the state,\u201d said\nGovernor JB Pritzker. \u201cThis investment will bring tens of millions of dollars\nto Rockford, Quincy and Willard as we work to improve and expand our local airports.\nAfter years of disinvestment, my administration is committed to investing in\nour infrastructure and creating jobs in every corner of Illinois.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cUnder the leadership of Gov. Pritzker, IDOT is investing in\ncommunities by rebuilding infrastructure across all modes throughout the\nstate,\u201d said Acting Illinois Transportation Secretary Omer Osman. \u201cThis latest\ncommitment will only strengthen the important role that aviation plays in\nIllinois.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The following airports are set to receive funding through IDOT\u2019s\nDivision of Aeronautics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Quincy Regional Airport: $9 million federal, $500,000\nstate match, $500,000 local match for runway reconstruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Chicago Rockford International Airport: $9 million\nfederal, $500,000 state match, $500,000 local match for apron construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 University of Illinois – Willard Airport: $9.9 million\nfederal, $550,000 state match, $550,000 local match for runway reconstruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The projects are made possible by $27.9 million in\nsupplemental discretionary funding through the Federal Aviation\nAdministration\u2019s Airport Improvement Program, with IDOT providing the matching\nfunds to maximize the funding opportunity and accelerate construction.\n\nThe Illinois aviation system consists of more\nthan 825 landing facilities, including commercial, reliever and general\naviation airports, private landing areas and hospital heliports. The Division of\nAeronautics helps to oversee all matters involving the development of any\npublic air navigation facility, administering federal funding and annually\nmanaging between 100 and 120 grants totaling approximately $250 million.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
