In Herbert A.\nHutchinson\u2019s book, \u201cThe F-16 Fighting Falcon Multinational Weapon System, 1972\nto 2019,\u201d he illustrates the unconventional process of creating one of the\nmajor United States Air Force weapon systems that he also had the pleasure to\nwork on. Hutchinson\u2019s years of experience are eloquently peppered throughout\nhis book giving readers a glimpse into the creation and development of this\ncaptivating system. His book also shares inside information and decisions that\nwere made for the YF-16 and F-16 fighter aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/f-16-Book.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15933\" width=\"231\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/f-16-Book.jpg 532w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/f-16-Book-231x300.jpg 231w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 231px) 100vw, 231px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Hutchinson\u2019s new book is a sequel to his debut book, \u201cInside\nHistory of the USAF Lightweight Fighters, 1900 to 1975.\u201d Both books were timed\nto commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the General\nDynamics Model 401 configuration in 1970. The design concept, \u201cAs the twig is\nbent, so shall the tree grow,\u201d can be seen throughout his two books. This\nmetaphor was the driving force behind the development of the F-16 weapon system\ninventory of 26 nations. He factually portrays the unprecedented technology\nrisks and significant events that occurred as the design team and test team\nwere defining and testing the tactical \u201ccombat relevant\u201d capabilities of the\nadvanced technologies weapon system. Hutchinson pays special tribute to the\npilots and the ground crew members who proved the lethality and effectiveness\nof the multinational F-16 as it safely accomplished many thousands of hazardous\ncoalition missions in several wars during this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy two books will hopefully provide valuable advice and\ninspiration to all young students who are planning their continued education\nand future career paths in science and engineering,\u201d Hutchinson said. \u201cThe\nbooks are accompanied by many photographs, diagrams and copies of the actual\ncorrespondence documents to illustrate the unique development trail of the\naircraft regarded by aviation historians as the world&#8217;s best fourth-generation\nfighter aircraft.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the factual data, events, and accounts presented in\nHutchinson\u2019s newest book, readers will gain a much better appreciation of the\nteamwork that is essential in each new military weapon system or each new\ncommercial aircraft development process. Hutchinson dedicated his career to\naeronautical engineering spanning over 40 years. He served as an officer in the\nUS Army in the Korean War where his career as an engineer first began.\nHutchinson\u2019s roles included being a Wind Tunnel Test Engineer, an\nAerodynamicist at Republic Aviation in New York and a Flight Test Performance\nEngineer at General Dynamics in Texas. Hutchinson also was a Chief System\nEngineer for several USAF Weapons Systems, including the USAF Lightweight\nFighter Program and the USAF F-16 Fighting Falcon Multinational Weapon System,\nwhich is where he pulls the key information for the two books he has published,\n\u201cInside History of the USAF Lightweight Fighters, 1900 to 1975\u201d and \u201cThe F-16\nFighting Falcon Multinational Weapon System, 1972 to 2019.\u201d He has served as\nthe USAF Representative on several US Presidential Advisory Committees and USAF\naircraft major accident and incident investigations.
