The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association has canceled the\n2020 R.A. “Bob” Hoover Awards because of the ongoing situation\nsurrounding the Coronavirus pandemic. The awards were originally set to take\nplace on March 18 in Washington, D.C., and were rescheduled in conjunction with\nthe National Business Aviation Association’s annual BACE convention in Orlando\nfor Oct. 6, which has also been affected by the pandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The health and welfare of our staff and event\nattendees remain a priority,” AOPA said in a statement. “We continue\nto monitor the ongoing situation surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic and\ndecisions regarding AOPA events will always be communicated as soon as a\ndecision is made. We look forward to being together again soon to recognize and\ncelebrate the contributions of many notable leaders throughout general\naviation.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 2021 Hoover Awards date will be announced later this\nyear. The 2020 R.A. \u201cBob\u201d Hoover Awards would have been the fifth-annual awards\nceremony and scheduled to honor Burt Rutan during a reception at Ronald Reagan\nWashington National Airport\u2019s historic Terminal A in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hoover Trophy honors \u201caviators whose airmanship,\nleadership, mentorship, and passion for aviation inspire a love of flight in\ncountless others.\u201d Hoover won the first trophy, himself, in 2016 and AOPA has\ncarried on his memory through the prestigious annual awards each year. Other\nhonorees have included Sean D. Tucker, Harrison Ford, and Clay Lacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to the Hoover Trophy, AOPA was planning to\npresent the Joseph B. \u201cDoc\u201d Hartranft Award, the Laurence P. Sharples Perpetual\nAward, the General Aviation Safety Award, and the inaugural Brigadier General\nCharles E. McGee Aviation Inspiration Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
