{"id":15886,"date":"2020-07-06T18:04:48","date_gmt":"2020-07-06T18:04:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=15886"},"modified":"2020-07-06T18:04:50","modified_gmt":"2020-07-06T18:04:50","slug":"aaae-calls-government-framework-to-mitigate-coronavirus-risks-a-positive-step-forward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/national-news\/aaae-calls-government-framework-to-mitigate-coronavirus-risks-a-positive-step-forward\/%20","title":{"rendered":"AAAE Calls Government Framework to Mitigate Coronavirus Risks a Positive Step Forward"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) commended U.S. government officials for the release last week of \u201cRunway to Recovery: The United States Framework for Airlines and Airports to Mitigate the Public Health Risks of Coronavirus.\u201d The <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1S_k6-bMo_jcAxmKWGXV-mP3gbDepUmO-\/view\">document<\/a>, which was developed jointly by the U.S. Departments of Transportation, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services, provides guidance to airports and airlines for implementing measures to mitigate the public health risks associated with COVID-19, prepare for increased travel volume, improve consistency across the aviation system, and restore passenger confidence in air travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe framework released today builds upon the important work\nthat airports, airlines, and our federal government partners have undertaken in\nrecent months to protect the health and safety of passengers as they return to\nairport facilities and take to the skies,\u201d AAAE President &amp; CEO Todd\nHauptli said. \u201cWhile many of the recommendations in the report are already\nbeing implemented in airports across the country \u2013 including enhanced cleaning\nand sanitization, social distancing, and minimizing in-person interaction and\ntouch-points \u2013 uniform guidance from the federal government will be helpful in\ndriving further enhancements and in building consistency for passengers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added, \u201cTo be clear, the document isn\u2019t perfect and some\nof the recommendations will be difficult for airports to implement absent\nfederal requirements and resources, but it is an important step in the right\ndirection during these unprecedented times. As they return to airports, the\ntraveling public can feel confident in knowing that industry and the government\nare working continuously to enhance the health and safety of the travel\njourney.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The framework identifies 11 recommended measures for airports\nand airlines to implement across all operations and stages of travel to, from,\nand within the United States. Those recommendations are to: educate and\ncommunicate with passengers and employees; require appropriate face coverings;\npromote social distancing to the extent possible; enhance cleaning and\ndisinfection procedures; conduct health assessment for passengers and\nemployees; collect passenger contact information for public health response\npurposes; protect employees and separate passengers and crew; minimize\nin-person interaction touch points and shared objects, documents, and surfaces;\nreport daily status of public health risk mitigation efforts among\nstakeholders; enhance airport security checkpoint operations; and utilize\ngovernment technology programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For several months, AAAE has been calling for clear and consistent guidelines, based on public health and medical expertise, on how best to respond to and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
