As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts on the\nflight training industry, Redbird Flight Simulations is providing free access\nto a new product that enables flight instructors to conduct remote flight\nsimulator sessions with students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The product, dubbed Redbird Connect, provides an effective\nplatform for flight instructors and their students to safely resume flight\nlessons through flight simulation and video conferencing technology. Connect\nenables remote access to a web-based version of Redbird\u2019s flight simulator\noperating system, Redbird Navigator, which gives flight instructors full\nfunctionality of the system\u2019s instructor tools. From anywhere in the world,\ninstructors now will be able to guide and control flight training sessions on\nRedbird simulators by setting and changing the weather, initiating failures,\npausing and unpausing flights, repositioning aircraft, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Redbird Connect also prioritizes the instructor\u2019s visibility\ninto training sessions. To allow instructors to track flights and provide\nscenario-specific guidance, the product includes a split-screen view of the\nsimulated aircraft\u2019s primary flight display (PFD) and a moving map display of\nthe flight in progress. Combined with a live video feed of the student, flight\ninstructors can simultaneously oversee the student\u2019s hand flying and critical\ndata for the flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Redbird Connect is currently in beta testing with flight\nschools around the United States and is due for release in the next Navigator\nupdate this month. Redbird is offering the new product for free as flight\nschools and instructors adjust their operations for the global coronavirus\npandemic. As part of EAA\u2019s Spirit of Aviation Week, which takes place July\n21-25, 2020, Redbird Connect will power the Virtual Pilot Proficiency Center.\nAn all-online version of the week-long program at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, the\nVirtual Pilot Proficiency Center will pair pilots with Certified Flight\nInstructors (CFIs) to practice a series of scenario-based training exercises\nfor visual flight rules (VFR) and instrument flight rules (IFR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To utilize Redbird Connect in their flight training,\nstudents will be able to download and install the product on any Redbird flight\nsimulator that has the Navigator operating system installed. Both the student\nand instructor will need a reliable internet connection and access to a third-party\nvideo conferencing application.
