Qatar Airways has formally signed a partnership agreement\nwith US-based disaster response nonprofit Airlink promising to provide 200 tons\nof free freight space over the next two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the new agreement, Airlink, NGO partner AFYA\nFoundation and Qatar Airways conducted their first project, transporting over\n64,000lbs of soap to Botswana. Hand washing is critical to mitigating the\nspread of COVID-19. This shipment of soap is being donated to a local\norganization based in Gaborone, Botswana, in order to help provide this basic,\nbut vital, assistance. According to UNICEF and the World Health Organization, 3\nbillion people around the world do not have access to handwashing facilities\nwith water and soap at home. Soap is often a scarce resource, and its use is\nprioritized for other purposes, including dishwashing and laundry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airlink supports over 130 aid organizations by harnessing\nthe power of the aviation industry to provide free and subsidized airlift to\nhumanitarian response nonprofits responding to natural and man-made disasters.\nCelebrating its 10th year of operation in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic,\nAirlink has moved 6.5 million pieces of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), to\nthe US and across the globe in support of vulnerable communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both Airlink and Qatar Airways have successfully worked\ntogether in the past. In April 2019, as communities in Mozambique and\nneighboring countries sought to recover from the devastating effects of Cyclone\nIdai, 19,000 pounds of aid was dispatched to fragile communities, thanks to the\ngenerosity of Qatar Airways working in conjunction with Airlink\u2019s partner\nnonprofits Save the Children and MedShare. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
