{"id":15797,"date":"2020-06-23T14:02:15","date_gmt":"2020-06-23T14:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=15797"},"modified":"2020-06-23T14:03:32","modified_gmt":"2020-06-23T14:03:32","slug":"covid-19-uncertainty-forces-cancellation-of-rochester-ny-fly-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/new-york\/covid-19-uncertainty-forces-cancellation-of-rochester-ny-fly-in\/%20","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 Uncertainty Forces Cancellation of Rochester, NY, Fly-In"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association has canceled its\nSeptember 11-12, 2020, fly-in in Rochester, New York, as a result of ongoing\nissues associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs we have anticipated the reopening of most activities\nfollowing the early COVID-19 stay-at-home orders, our AOPA events team has worked\nhard to maintain the viability of our Rochester fly-in with the hopes that it\ncould be our first big event of this unique year,\u201d said AOPA President and CEO\nMark Baker. \u201cThis decision was not taken lightly, and it was made in close\ncoordination with all event partners, including Monroe County executives, local\nand state health departments, and airport\/ATC management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA number of factors went into this decision: the continuing\nconstraints that COVID-19 is expected to have on large-scale events in New York\nState, and staffing issues related to the health crisis and resulting\nslowdowns,\u201d Baker added. \u201cThe serious challenges and potential restrictions\nahead of us just won\u2019t allow us to create the type of member and exhibitor\nexperience that would meet our high standards.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who registered for the event will receive a full\nrefund. Registrants don\u2019t need to take any action to initiate refunds; AOPA\nwill process credit card refunds. Please expect delays for refunds by check.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe ROC community is saddened we aren\u2019t able to host the\nSeptember AOPA fly-in,\u201d said Andrew G. Moore, Airport Director.&nbsp; \u201cWe certainly understand the decision and\nlook forward to being able to host AOPA in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this year, AOPA was forced to cancel its fly-in\nevents in San Marcos, Texas, and Casper, Wyoming. AOPA is working with local\nofficials and organizers for all our 2020 fly-ins on potential future dates for\nthose events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AOPA and its Air Safety Institute have created aviation\nresources as the nation continues to recover from the health crisis and as\nstates modify social distancing restrictions.
