Stimpson Aviation Excellence Award Scholarship Recipient"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA)\nannounced they are awarding the 2020 Edward W. Stimpson Aviation Excellence\nAward Scholarship to Alexis Spinetta, of Austin, Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGAMA is proud to support Alexis as she begins her next\neducational journey. We were inspired by her passion for general aviation and\ncommitment to her studies and community,\u201d said GAMA President and CEO Pete\nBunce. \u201cIt is encouraging to see such a bright talent focused on shaping the\nfuture of aviation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spinetta graduated from Vandergrift High School in Austin,\nTexas, and will be attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in\nthe fall to major in Aerospace Engineering. She was in the top of her class, an\nAP Scholar with Distinction, and in the National Honor Society. In addition to\nher academic achievements, she was captain of the varsity soccer team and\nrecently earned her FAA private pilot certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In her essay as to why she wants to pursue a career in\ngeneral aviation, Spinetta wrote:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cI foresee a rebirth of general aviation, led by the next generation of innovators who champion new forms of urban mobility. I have big dreams \u201c\u2026 I hope to discover, advance, and commercialize ground-breaking innovations that help transform the aviation industry.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Edward W. Stimpson Aviation Excellence Award Scholarship\nis awarded each year to a deserving high school senior, pursuing studies in\naviation. GAMA offers this $2,000 scholarship as part of its commitment to\nworkforce development and advancing careers in general aviation. Scholarship\napplicants are evaluated on academic achievements, involvement in\nextra-curricular activities and an essay on their interest in pursuing a career\nin general aviation. The Scholarship is named in honor of a GAMA founder and\npast president \u2013 Edward W. Stimpson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information about the Edward W.
