The\nUnmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) business unit will continue Honeywell&#8217;s momentum\nand leadership in these emerging markets, utilizing Honeywell&#8217;s technology,\nsoftware, services and certification expertise to meet customers&#8217; needs in\nthese markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Urban Air Mobility and Unmanned Aerial Systems will\nplay an increasing role in the future of aerospace, with potential applications\nin all-electric urban air taxi vehicles, hybrid-electric unmanned cargo drones,\noptionally piloted airplanes, delivery drones and everything in between,&#8221;\nsaid Mike Madsen, president and CEO, Honeywell Aerospace. &#8220;Honeywell has\nalready contributed many technological advancements to these markets, and is well\npositioned to continue growing our portfolio to meet customer needs and help\nshape the future of autonomous aviation and urban transport.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Equipped with its own engineering and sales resources, the\nUAS business unit will develop new products and services uniquely required for\nthese markets. It will also act as a systems integrator for all Honeywell\nproducts and services that could be used in this industry. These offerings\ninclude aircraft systems such as avionics, electric and hybrid-electric\npropulsion and thermal management, flight services such as unmanned air traffic\nmanagement, and ground operations services such as predictive aircraft\nmaintenance analytics. Beyond technology development, this business will be a\nsingle point of contact for innovative aircraft designers or operators to\neasily do business with Honeywell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re seeing the dawn of a new era in aviation, and\nHoneywell is at the forefront,&#8221; said St\u00e9phane Fymat, vice president and\ngeneral manager of the newly formed business. &#8220;By forming this new organization,\nwe will be able to harness the power of our engineering resources and know-how\nto transform urban air taxis, drone delivery of parcels and all forms of\nautonomous flight from a future vision into an everyday reality.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new organization will further expand Honeywell&#8217;s growing\nportfolio of UAM solutions, and is heavily focused on software development,\ndriving rapid development and testing of new products like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A &#8220;fly-by-wire&#8221; autopilot system that\nautomatically ensures aircraft stability even if the pilot is &#8220;hands\noff&#8221; for extended periods of time<\/li><li>Detect-and-avoid algorithms that automatically\nfly an aircraft around oncoming traffic<\/li><li>Artificial intelligence software that tracks\nlanding zones for precise vertical landings every time<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Honeywell is a leading provider of systems for urban air\ntaxi and cargo vehicles as well as other types of aircraft, including\nintegrated avionics, flight controls, electric and hybrid-electric propulsion,\nactuation, and cabin environmental control systems. The company collaborates\nactively with other industry leaders such as Pipistrel, Vertical Aerospace,\nVolocopter and Jaunt Air Mobility.
