Civil Air Patrol\u2019s Vermont Wing, acting as the official\nauxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, has been assisting the Vermont National Guard\nand its partners with food distribution throughout Vermont during the COVID-19\npandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur cadets and senior members will do our best to support\nthe Guard in its vital mission of providing fresh food to our neighbors in\nneed,\u201d said Col. Ann Brechbuhl, Vermont Wing commander. \u201cThese are historic\ncircumstances, and our members are stepping up every day to help communities\nall around the state.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In one day alone, on June 4, the Vermont Wing helped the\nNational Guard deliver 15,000 pounds of food. To date, 36 cadets and senior\nmembers from the wing have participated in nine food distribution events\nstatewide, assisting the Guard with giving out 403,800 MREs (Meals Ready to\nEat) and about 26,000 pounds of food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nationwide over the past three months, volunteers with Civil\nAir Patrol have served more than three million meals, loaded hundreds of\nthousands of pounds of food at distribution centers and provided numerous other\nhumanitarian services. Collectively, CAP members nationwide have already\ncontributed over 10,000 volunteer days of service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a Total Force partner and the Air Force auxiliary, Civil\nAir Patrol is aligned with First Air Force to rapidly respond to non-military\nthreats domestically. In this situation members worked as a component of the\nU.S. Air Force in a Defense Support of Civil Authorities capacity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vermont Wing squadrons are located in South Burlington,\nBarre\/Montpelier, Rutland, Bennington and Springfield. The wing provides search\nand rescue and disaster relief missions, and other support, for many local,\nstate and federal agencies \u2014 like the Federal Emergency Management Agency,\nVermont State Police, Vermont Air National Guard, and others \u2014 by providing\nincident awareness assessment, airborne photography of large areas of the\nNortheast United States, urgent VIP transport, delivery of emergency medical\nsupplies, and many other missions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
