The project is funded by the Airport\u2019s\nPassenger Facility Charge (PFC) Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"250\" height=\"188\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Yuma-terminal-2.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15687\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Airport Director, Gladys Brown explained \u201cThe scope of work\nfor this project includes the replacement of the existing baggage carousel\nwhich was installed when the passenger terminal was constructed in 1999. The\nnew equipment will be quieter, feature an added measure of safety and the new\nconfiguration will have additional capacity that will help passengers collect\ntheir baggage after arriving.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms. Brown continued, \u201cIn 2019, the airport collaborated with\nDr. Samuel Pfeffers and a team of systems engineering students from the\nUniversity of Arizona \u2013 Yuma who used the baggage carousel replacement project\nas their senior design project. The engineering design team worked to develop\nthe system utilizing passenger flow studies, and industry manufacturers from\naround the country to define requirements for the replacement that met the\nneeds of the airport. The results provided by the U of A systems engineering\nstudents were then used in part to ultimately create the replacement system\nprepared by local architect firm Architecture West.\u201d\n\nMs. Brown shared, \u201cAfter the equipment is manufactured,\nthe installation is anticipated to begin in mid-September 2020 and will take\nabout 6 weeks to complete.
