The completion of this piece of the project is a testament to the dedication of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, private partners and construction workers across New York State who worked tirelessly to bring the vision for this project to life.  American Airlines\u00c2\u00a0and\u00c2\u00a0United Airlines<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/travel\/airline-news\/2020\/06\/05\/united-airlines-restores-more-flights-july-adds-nonstops\/3160482001\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/a>both began utilizing the new terminal&#8217;s Arrivals and Departures Hall over the weekend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/SOCIAL-New-Look-For-New-York-061020-1200x628-1024x536.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15682\" width=\"284\" height=\"148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/SOCIAL-New-Look-For-New-York-061020-1200x628-1024x536.png 1024w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/SOCIAL-New-Look-For-New-York-061020-1200x628-300x157.png 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/SOCIAL-New-Look-For-New-York-061020-1200x628.png 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 284px) 100vw, 284px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The Arrivals and Departures Hall for the new Terminal B is\nwhere passengers will check-in, pass through security, experience best in class\nshops, restaurants and services, and pick up their checked baggage. Air Canada,\nAmerican Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines will operate all\ntheir ticket counters and bag claims from the new hall. The building connects\ndirectly to the new eastern concourse gates via a pedestrian bridge built over\ntop of the original terminal \u2013 a truly innovative design incorporated in the\nnew terminal to ensure that the original facility remained operational\nthroughout construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Work is continuing on the final piece of the new Terminal B\n\u2013 the western concourse \u2013 which will open its first seven (of 17) gates later\nin 2020. The new Terminal B signals the start of a modern era in New York City\ninfrastructure and aviation and is part of Governor Andrew Cuomo&#8217;s vision for a\nstate of the art unified airport. Once the overall LaGuardia redevelopment is\ncomplete, the United States will have its first new airport in more than two\ndecades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The opening of the new Arrivals and Departures Hall at\nTerminal B is the biggest milestone to date in the transformation of LaGuardia\nAirport into a world-class transportation hub that is worthy of New York\nState,&#8221; Governor Cuomo said. &#8220;As we continue to upgrade and modernize\nthis airport for the 21st century, this new state-of-the-art hall will offer\npassengers a unique travel experience with new concessions, traveler amenities\nand art installations by four of the world&#8217;s leading artists, while increasing\nspace for passengers to move more safely and efficiently during and after the\nCOVID-19 pandemic.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/NR3-1024x536.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15681\" width=\"359\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NR3-1024x536.png 1024w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NR3-300x157.png 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NR3.png 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 359px) 100vw, 359px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Rick Cotton, Executive Director, Port Authority of New York\nand New Jersey Executive Director said, &#8220;The opening of the first new\nArrivals and Departure Hall is a major milestone in delivering on Governor Cuomo&#8217;s\nvision for a brand new, world-class, 21st century LaGuardia Airport that the\nregion deserves. The design incorporates\nsoaring ceilings and an abundance of natural light, creating a comfortable and\nwelcoming ambience for passengers. The top level features the main commercial\ndistrict, including 17 of the hall&#8217;s 21 modern shops and restaurants (due to\nCOVID-19, not all shops and restaurants will open initially).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through LGP&#8217;s partnership with the Public Art Fund, the\nArrivals and Departures Hall also features a world-class art program,\nunderscoring New York&#8217;s reputation as a cultural leader.&nbsp; Expressing the essence of New York, artists\nJeppe Hein, Sabine Hornig, Laura Owens and Sarah Sze each developed their work\nspecifically for Terminal B.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LGP has also partnered with the TSA to ensure Terminal B\nfeatures the most technologically advanced screening equipment, including\nAdvanced Imaging Technology, Smart Pad System and mobile inspection tables as\npart of the baggage system. Other innovative technologies in the terminal\ninclude our common use check-in system, dynamic signage, the terminal&#8217;s\nBuilding Management System and mobile and contactless food ordering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In July 2015, Governor Cuomo unveiled the vision for a\ncomprehensive redevelopment of LaGuardia Airport, which included the new 1.3\nmillion square foot Terminal B. With a construction value of $4B, the Terminal\nB project is one of the largest public-private partnerships in American history\nand the largest in US aviation.
