Collins Aerospace, a Raytheon Technologies Company, L3Harris\nTechnologies, and Thales USA have been contracted to work with the Northern\nPlains UAS Test Site to enable real-world, scalable, commercial and public UAS\nBVLOS operations in North Dakota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last May, the State of North Dakota invested $28 million in\nfunding to support the creation of a statewide UAS network that would enable\nBVLOS flights to support operations across the state. The statewide network\nwill facilitate economic growth opportunities in diverse industries, including\nagriculture, utilities, and public safety, by enabling UAS efficiencies for\nstate and local agencies and commercial interests, both existing and future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This strategic partnership of system integrators combines\nthe expertise of giants in the aviation technology industry. These system\nintegrators bring to the table decades of safety experience in manned aviation\nalong with new and innovative ideas and access to cutting-edge UAS technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Nicholas_Flom_395x230.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15633\" width=\"264\" height=\"154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Nicholas_Flom_395x230.jpg 395w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Nicholas_Flom_395x230-300x175.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 264px) 100vw, 264px\" \/><figcaption><em>Nicholas Flom<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith this partnership in place, North Dakota is\nwell-positioned to create and implement what is really the next level in the\nUAS industry,\u201d said Nicholas Flom, executive director of the Northern Plains\nUAS Test Site (NPUASTS), which administers the statewide UAS BVLOS network.\n\u201cNobody else is doing what North Dakota is doing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first task order the system integrators have been\ncharged with is to develop a BVLOS system development and implementation plan,\nwith initial deployment in western North Dakota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have multiple public and commercial use cases on the\nwestern side of the state, representing a variety of industries,\u201d said Jim\nCieplak, program manager for the statewide network at NPUASTS. \u201cThis will\nenable the network to provide real-world benefits as we continue to build it\nout and expand its reach.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These system integrators will work to drive approvals from\nthe Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Federal Communications\nCommission (FCC).
