Today,\nthe General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) released its report of\ngeneral aviation aircraft shipments and billings for the first quarter of 2020.\nPiston, turboprop, business jet and rotorcraft deliveries declined across\nall segments during the first quarter of 2020 as compared to the first quarter\nof 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhile\nthe year started off strong, the health and safety restrictions put in place to\nrespond to the COVID-19 pandemic began to significantly impact global\noperations, supply chains and deliveries towards the end of the first quarter.\nCompanies rapidly implemented a wide range of health protocols in accordance\nwith local, regional and national level guidance to keep production,\nmaintenance and training activity churning. Many companies then supplemented\nongoing activities with the production and transport of health care materials\nneeded by front line health care workers and communities across the globe.\nThese actions serve as a testament to the adaptability and resilience of our\nindustry\u2019s incredible workforce who will play such a pivotal role in our\nrecovery process,\u201d said GAMA President and CEO Pete Bunce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nfirst quarter of 2020, when compared to the first quarter of 2019, saw piston\nairplane deliveries decline 11.7%, with 219 units; turboprop airplane\ndeliveries decline 41.8%, with 71 units; and business jet deliveries\ndecline 19.1%, with 114 units. The value of airplane deliveries through\nthe first quarter of 2020 was $3.4 billion, a decline of approximately 21.3%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Turbine\nhelicopter deliveries for the first quarter of 2020, when compared to the first\nquarter of 2019, saw a decline of 18.3%, with 85 units; and piston helicopter\ndeliveries saw a decline of 43.9%, with 37 units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
