Chao Announces Over $1 Billion in Grants to 439 Airports in 50 States"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao announced that the Department of Transportation\u2019s\u00c2\u00a0Federal Aviation Administration\u00c2\u00a0(FAA) will award $1.187 billion in airport safety and infrastructure grants. The total includes $731 million in\u00c2\u00a0Airport Improvement Program\u00c2\u00a0(AIP) grants and an additional $455 million in\u00c2\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Supplemental Discretionary grants (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/airports\/aip\/aip_supplemental_appropriation\/\" target=\"_blank\">Supplemental Discretionary grants<\/a>. The money will be available for 100 percent of the eligible costs under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.<br> <br> \u201cThis Federal investment of over $1 billion represents the Department\u2019s continued commitment to the safety and efficiency of our nation\u2019s airports for the traveling public,\u201d said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A\u00c2\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"complete listing of grants (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/airports\/aip\/grantapportion_data\/media\/FY20-AIP-Grants-Announced.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">complete listing of grants<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0(PDF)\u00c2\u00a0and an\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/airports\/aip\/2020_aip_grants\/map\/\">interactive map of airports receiving funding<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0is available on the FAA website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The combined AIP and Supplemental Discretionary grants will\nfund a wide variety of projects. Some of these projects are purchasing aircraft\nrescue and firefighting equipment, constructing runways and taxiways, repairing\nrunways and taxiways, installing aircraft lighting and signage, conducting\nairport master plan studies, and installing airport perimeter fencing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe 439 grants will ensure that airport sponsors can make\nthe necessary improvements so their airports can operate in a safe and\nefficient manner for years to come,\u201d said FAA Administrator Stephen M.
