{"id":15256,"date":"2020-04-21T17:00:49","date_gmt":"2020-04-21T17:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=15256"},"modified":"2020-04-21T17:08:36","modified_gmt":"2020-04-21T17:08:36","slug":"nbaa-requested-treasury-payroll-support-relief-to-ga-air-carriers-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/national-news\/nbaa-requested-treasury-payroll-support-relief-to-ga-air-carriers-begins\/%20","title":{"rendered":"NBAA-Requested Treasury Payroll Support Relief to GA Air Carriers Begins"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) today\nwelcomed news that the U.S. Department of the Treasury has begun making\npayments to many of the small and mid-sized general aviation air-carriers,\nincluding FAR Part 135 charter operators struggling with the unprecedented\nfinancial challenges raised by the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Apr. 20, Treasury made the first payroll support program\npayments to approved applicants, among them many Part 135 charter operators.\nAll funds provided under the program can be used only for the continuation of\npayment of employee wages, salaries, and benefits. The program was launched\nfollowing implementation of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security\n(CARES) Act on March 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NBAA has strongly advocated for general aviation air carriers as Treasury implemented the payroll support program. In a <a href=\"https:\/\/nbaa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/advocacy\/letters\/20200331-NBAA-NATA-Letter-to-Treasury-CARES-Act.pdf\">Mar. 31 letter<\/a>, the association explained to Treasury that initial guidance on the payroll support program presented challenges for general aviation businesses, as specific requirements were structured for the major scheduled airlines. Review the joint Mar. 31 letter sent by NBAA and the National Air Transportation Association to Treasury Secretary Mnuchin. On April 10, the department issued guidance responding directly to the association\u2019s concerns and providing essential flexibility for general aviation air carriers seeking payroll support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the COVID-19 virus has spread, charter operators across the country are reporting sharp drop-offs in flight requests and activity, in some cases by <a href=\"https:\/\/nbaa.org\/aircraft-operations\/safety\/coronavirus\/covid-19-point-of-impact\/industry-veteran-covid-19-driving-charter-flights-down-75\/\">more than 75%<\/a> over the same period last year.
