Calio released a statement\nrecently, on behalf of U.S. airlines and their 750,000 employees, applauding\nPresident Trump for signing the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security\n(CARES) Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CARES Act includes provisions intended to assist the\nU.S. airline industry to continue making payroll and protect the jobs of\npilots, flight attendants, gate agents, mechanics and others. The statement\nread that President Trump and Vice President Pence continue to demonstrate\nunwavering leadership during this global health crisis and take decisive action\nto protect the American people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>U.S. airlines were among the first industries to feel the\neconomic impacts of the pandemic and will be key to the country\u2019s recovery, and\naccording to A4A, the Direct Payroll Assistance provisions in the CARES Act are\ndesigned to provide immediate financial relief that is necessary to continue\nfunding the payrolls of U.S. airlines. Calio says they remain hopeful that the\nfederal government will expeditiously release these funds with as few\nrestrictions as possible to ensure airlines are able to utilize these\nprovisions and meet payroll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe impact of government- and business-imposed travel\nrestrictions and public fear have devastated the U.S. airline industry, our\nemployees, travelers and the shipping public,\u201d noted Calio in the released\nstatement. \u201cSince the beginning of March, U.S. air carriers \u2013 both passenger\nand cargo \u2013 have seen their positions of strong financial health deteriorate at\nan unprecedented and unsustainable pace.
