{"id":15113,"date":"2020-03-24T11:32:28","date_gmt":"2020-03-24T11:32:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=15113"},"modified":"2020-03-24T11:32:30","modified_gmt":"2020-03-24T11:32:30","slug":"stimulus-package-must-preserve-general-aviations-vital-role-nbaa-tells-congressional-leaders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/district-of-columbia\/stimulus-package-must-preserve-general-aviations-vital-role-nbaa-tells-congressional-leaders\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Stimulus Package Must Preserve General Aviation\u2019s Vital Role, NBAA Tells Congressional Leaders"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) and\nseveral industry groups are urging Congress to preserve general aviation\u2019s\nvital contribution to the U.S. economy as it considers a relief package to\nsupport the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>General aviation is crucial to the country\u2019s transportation\nnetwork, serving as a lifeline for many communities, and Part 135 operators\nconducting almost all air ambulance flights in the U.S. The general aviation\ncommunity supports 1.2 million jobs and $247 billion in economic impact, but\nunder the economic pressures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, many operators\nmay not survive without financial assistance, according to a letter the groups\nsent to congressional leaders this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read the <a href=\"https:\/\/nbaa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/advocacy\/letters\/20200317-General-Aviation-Air-Carrier-Relief-Letter.pdf\">full letter<\/a> to congressional leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs you consider a potential relief package for FAR Part 121\nair carriers, we request that those same programs be made available for\ncompanies conducting operations under FAR Parts 135 and 91 subpart K. Programs\nthat would provide the most support to our industry include medium to long-term\nliquidity assistance and relief from air transportation excise taxes,\u201d the\nletter states. \u201cWith the majority of business aviation air carriers being\nprivate companies, their access to capital is more constrained. In the current\nenvironment, private equity markets are not able to provide financing,\neliminating an important source of liquidity for the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The threat of potential domestic travel restrictions and\nlocally imposed travel restrictions might cause even more significant harm to\nthese companies as the COVID-19 crisis continues, the letter adds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe business aviation industry is resilient and has a\nproven track record of providing humanitarian assistance during times of need,\u201d\naccording to the letter. \u201cHowever, the air carriers within our industry are\nfacing unprecedented challenges, and we appreciate your consideration of our\nrequests.
