This $132 million Five-Year Plan programs federal, state and\nlocal funding for various airport infrastructure projects across the state. It\nwill now go into a public comment phase and is expected to go up for approval\nin the May Commission meeting. Projects in the plan include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 $1.5 million to construct a new terminal building at the\nThomas P Stafford Airport in Weatherford in FY 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 $974,000 to improve drainage at the Shawnee Regional\nAirport in FY 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 A nearly $5 million project scheduled for FY 2025 to\nrealign the parallel taxiway system at the Guthrie\/Edmond Regional Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 A $4 million project at the Miami Regional Airport in FY\n2025 to realign the parallel taxiway system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The full version of the plan and instruction on commenting will be available at <a href=\"https:\/\/oac.ok.gov\/\">oac.ok.gov<\/a> starting the week of March 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Grayson-Aero-Com-meeting.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15059\" width=\"274\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Grayson-Aero-Com-meeting.jpg 504w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Grayson-Aero-Com-meeting-300x246.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 274px) 100vw, 274px\" \/><figcaption><em> Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission Deputy Director Grayson Ardies shares improvement plans for twenty airports across the state. The Airport Construction Program for Fiscal Years 2021-2025 will soon be available online for public comments before formal approval. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission Director Victor Bird\nprovided updates on several legislative measures affecting the\naerospace\/aviation industry. This includes Senate Bill 1826, a measure to\ncreate a grant program to incentivize more direct, nonstop routes from Oklahoma\ncommercial airports nationwide and also Senate Bill 1157, a proposal to repeal\nthe current $4.5 million cap on the aircraft excise tax revenue which comes to\nthe Commission. Bird also discussed Senate Bill 1461, which will amend the\nEngineer Tax Credits for Aerospace so engineers with graduate degrees have no\nissue qualifying for the credits<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOklahoma remains the only state with any tax incentive like\nthis, and they have been a critical component to the 250% growth of the\naviation and aerospace industry in Oklahoma since 1999,\u201d Director Bird said.\n\u201cAerospace is now the second largest industry in our state. It was the intent\nof the Legislature that engineers could qualify for the credit with an\nundergraduate or graduate degree. These amendments will ensure that almost all\nengineers claiming the credits based upon a graduate degree in engineering will\nqualify for the tax credits.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Commission approved a change to permanent rules called\nfor in House Bill 2118 which was enacted in 2019. This action helps ensure the\nstate\u2019s military training airspace is protected from encroaching development\nwhich could cause a conflict, such as the construction of wind turbines. These\nrules will require a wind energy developer to go through the Federal Aviation\nAdministration and the U.S. Department of Defense airspace processes for\nproject approval prior to construction in Oklahoma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grant funding for a weather observation system at the Thomas\nP. Stafford Airport in Weatherford and also for replacing the runway lighting\nsystem and other navigational equipment at the Chickasha Municipal Airport were\nalso approved by the Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Commission is a seven-member panel appointed by the\ngovernor with the mission of promoting aviation, which includes ensuring that\nthe needs of commerce and communities across Oklahoma are met by the state&#8217;s\n108 public airports that comprise the state system, and ensuring the viability\nof the state\u2019s aerospace industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Commission\u2019s next meeting will be announced as it is\nscheduled.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An updated $132 million plan for airport infrastructure projects across the state is taking shape, and state military airspace rules are further protected following the March meeting of the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission.
