The Airport Consultants Council (ACC) held their Airfield\nPavement Design, Evaluation & Analysis Workshop in Raleigh, North Carolina\nthis week, attracting participants from across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cACC has been offering the Airfield Pavement Design,\nEvaluation & Analysis Workshop for many years,\u201d said T.J. Schulz,\nPresident, Airport Consultants Council. \u201cThe event has provided hundreds of\nairside design experts updated information on FAA specifications and\ndirectives. Thanks to the strong support of Applied Pavement Technology, Inc.\nand experts from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), this workshop has\nbeen a consistent success. Demand for the Raleigh workshop was so strong that\nACC is looking to stand up a second course by the end of the calendar year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

APTech has been teaching this workshop for the ACC since the\nearly 2000s, with the objective of providing engineers with current information\non how to design new and rehabilitated airfield pavements and how to determine\nPavement Classification Numbers (PCNs). \nA unique feature of this workshop is the extensive use of hands-on\nproblem-solving activities, with participants using FAARFIELD and COMFAA to\nactually apply what they are learning about pavement design and analysis on\nreal-world design problems.  Participants\nleave the workshop with both an understanding of pavement design and analysis\nand the ability to develop designs for their clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week\u2019s class in Raleigh was a good window into how the\naudience has evolved over the years. \nWhile it originally targeted the consulting industry, in addition to\nrepresentatives from over 20 engineering firms, participants this week included\nrepresentatives from the FAA and two state DOTs.  \u201cThe diverse audience that this workshop\nattracts really benefits the workshop and its participants, as they bring\ndifferent perspectives and experiences to the table, allowing everyone to learn\nfrom the shared experiences of the industry,\u201d said Peshkin, APTech\u2019s Chief\nEngineer and co-instructor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
