MBS\nInternational Airport, located in Freeland, Michigan has received the 2019 Airport of the Year from the Michigan\nDepartment of Transportation (MDOT) – Office of Aeronautics in the air carrier\nairport category. The award was presented by Mark Noel, Manager of the Planning and\nDevelopment section at MDOT – Office of Aeronautics, on February 20 at\nthe 2020 Michigan Airport Conference Awards Luncheon held in Lansing, Michigan.\nThe Airport of the Year Award is determined by a consensus of the MDOT – Office of Aeronautics project managers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The award\nwas presented for the overall operation of the airport and the successful\ncompletion of a major rehabilitation of the main runway 5\/23 last summer. The\nrunway project included a new top layer of asphalt, new runway lights, and new\nelectrical cable. The project cost was approximately $8.1 million and was completed\nahead of schedule. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
