{"id":14956,"date":"2020-02-26T22:54:01","date_gmt":"2020-02-26T22:54:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=14956"},"modified":"2020-02-26T22:54:03","modified_gmt":"2020-02-26T22:54:03","slug":"kdot-announces-aviation-art-contest-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/kansas\/kdot-announces-aviation-art-contest-winners\/%20","title":{"rendered":"KDOT Announces Aviation Art Contest Winners"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Young artists from around the state were recognized recently\nfor submitting winning artwork in the Kansas Department of Transportation\u2019s\n2020 Kansas Aviation Art Contest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The contest is designed to challenge young people to use\ncreative expression through art to illustrate the importance of aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/KS-2020.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14957\" width=\"180\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/KS-2020.jpg 621w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/KS-2020-194x300.jpg 194w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Artists ages 6-17 were divided in three age categories\n(junior, intermediate and senior) to create art that celebrates the adventure\nand excitement of aviation. The theme for this year\u2019s contest was \u201cFlying\nYesterday and Tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith over 300 entrants from across the state, it\u2019s obvious\nthe passion for aviation still beats loud in the hearts of Kansas\u2019 young\npeople,\u201d said Bob Brock, KDOT Director of Aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2020 Kansas winners included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1st Place: Junior: Lily Weidemier, McPherson; Intermediate:\nSiena Masilionis, Leawood; and Senior: LeeAnn Skinner, Topeka; 2nd Place:\nJunior: Tripp Pelzel, McPherson; Intermediate: Kamron Clone, Newton; and\nSenior: Jessica Ta, Wichita; and 3rd Place: Junior: Journey Linthicum, Parsons;\nIntermediate: Lyssa Kay Beesley, Dighton; and Senior: Lola Speicher, Randolph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first-place winner in each age group receives a prize package from the Kansas Commission on Aerospace Education (KCAE), which includes a drone and a tablet among other prizes.
