{"id":14872,"date":"2020-02-19T14:23:34","date_gmt":"2020-02-19T14:23:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=14872"},"modified":"2020-02-19T14:23:36","modified_gmt":"2020-02-19T14:23:36","slug":"wilderness-pilot-movie-puts-vets-in-front-of-and-behind-camera","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/colorado\/wilderness-pilot-movie-puts-vets-in-front-of-and-behind-camera\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Wilderness Pilot Movie Puts Vets in Front Of and Behind Camera"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Spirit of Flight Foundation has begun working with\nthe Veterans Institute of Film and Media (VIFM) in Dallas Texas to help put\nveterans to work on an upcoming feature film, entitled THE WILDERNESS PILOT,\nwhich is currently in development in Colorado. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Redmond-Ramos.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14873\" width=\"271\" height=\"245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Redmond-Ramos.jpg 443w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Redmond-Ramos-300x271.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 271px) 100vw, 271px\" \/><figcaption><em>Redmond Ramos<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>VIFM will be supplying the production team with trained\ncrew who will work behind the camera in various departments, such as camera,\ngrip, art, and the director\u2019s team. In front of the camera, Redmond Ramos, a\nNavy Corpsman with the US Marines, will play the lead role in the film. Ramos\ndeployed to Afghanistan in 2011 where he stepped on an IED and later lost his\nleg. As soon as he got back, he decided to begin a life of motivating others\nand competed in track and swimming internationally for Team USA Invictus games.\nHe is an accomplished film and TV actor and will be featured in the film, along\nwith Hollywood talent who will be assigned key supporting roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ramos\u2019 character crashes his aircraft in a strange,\nremote wilderness, only to discover that more than just his physical survival\nis at stake. The Wilderness Pilot is a mind-bending adventure story about\nfaith, family and redemption. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFilmmaking is challenging, demanding work, and there\u2019s\nno better people to put on a film crew than the men and women of the United\nStates Military,\u201d says Joseph Granda, the co-writer and director of THE\nWILDERNESS PILOT movie.&nbsp; \u201cThe best way to\nthank veterans for their service is to employ them and teach them new skills.\nOur project can launch careers.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Cessna-210-in-Wilderness-Pilotedit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14874\" width=\"285\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Cessna-210-in-Wilderness-Pilotedit.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Cessna-210-in-Wilderness-Pilotedit-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 285px) 100vw, 285px\" \/><figcaption><em>Wrecked Cessna 210 used for production.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>By partnering with the non-profit Spirit of Flight\nFoundation, the filmmakers will be able to place VIFM veterans on the film crew\nthrough tax-deductible donations. \u201cThis film is a good fit for our dual mission\nof preserving aviation history and honoring military veterans,\u201d said Gordon\nPage, producer and host of the TV Show CHASING PLANES, who is also the Founder\nand President of the Spirit of Flight Foundation.&nbsp; \u201cI am the film\u2019s aviation consultant, and the\nFoundation will be providing a wrecked Cessna 210 airplane for the production.\u201d\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crew will be trained through the Veterans Institute for\nFilm and Media prior to accepting employment on the set. \u201cThe team-based film\ntraining we provide our students at VIFM prepares them well for these types of\nreal-world opportunities.\u201d said Maggy Croxville, Director for the Veterans\nInstitute for Film and Media. \u201cIt\u2019s a win-win, for the film itself, which\nqualifies for non-profit funding, and for our veterans to be able to work\nwithin a larger cast and crew, alongside Hollywood and industry professionals.\u201d\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Funding of the movie is being done with tax-deductible\ndonations and will help to establish a new, repeatable model for employing veterans\nin film in Colorado.
