Kansas Department of Transportation employees across the\nstate are being certified as Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) commercial\ndrone operators. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cooperative efforts between KDOT and members of the Kansas\nUnmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Joint Task Force continue to improve\npartnership efforts between state agencies in Kansas. Drones represent a number of opportunities\nfor the transportation industry to become more efficient. KDOT\u2019s Division of Aviation partnered with\nK-State Polytechnic for 18-months to establish formal drone training for\ninfrastructure inspectors. The first cadre of KDOT UAS operators were set to graduate\nlast week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This 20-person class represents Division of Aviation,\nmultiple bureaus of the Engineering and Design Division and every KDOT District\nacross the state. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are proud of the teamwork represented by this diverse\nclass and look forward to leveraging new technologies to enhance the\neffectiveness of our Kansas transportation system,\u201d said Transportation\nSecretary Julie Lorenz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
KDOT Directors of Operations, Engineering and Aviation are\nworking collaboratively to find innovative opportunities to improve KDOT\nprocesses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
