Haddaway Award\nfor Achievement in Aviation. In 2006, she became\nthe world\u2019s first female private space explorer when she spent nine days aboard\nthe International Space Station, and we are so thrilled to honor her at this\nyear\u2019s Gala.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CEO of the Ansari XPRIZE Foundation and\nCo-Founder\/chairwoman of Prodea Systems, Ansari is a catalyst for a new\ngeneration to pursue big dreams, even dreams as vast as the expanse of space.\nAnsari emigrated from Iran to the United States in 1984 as a teenager. She\nearned a bachelor\u2019s degree in electronics and computer engineering from George\nMason University and a master\u2019s degree in electrical engineering from George\nWashington University. Ansari, her husband Hamid Ansari, and her brother-in-law\nAmir Ansari cofounded Telecom Technologies, Inc. The company was acquired by\nSonus Networks, Inc. in 2000 in a deal worth approximately $550 million. Her\nfamily is the title sponsor of the Ansari XPRIZE. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SpaceShipOne is the first privately developed spacecraft to\ncarry people into suborbital space.&nbsp; In\n2004 the spacecraft successfully flew to new heights, winning the $10 million\nAnsari XPRIZE.&nbsp; While the original hangs\nin the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, an exact replica of\nSpaceShipOne soars high above the space gallery in the Frontiers of Flight\nMuseum.
