McCain III Terminal 3 recently to honor the longtime U.S. Senator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2017, Phoenix City Council voted to name Terminal 3 the\nJohn S. McCain III Terminal 3. The Terminal, which originally opened in 1979,\nhas undergone an extensive modernization. In early February, the final stage of\nthe modernization will be complete when the newly renovated north concourse\nopens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a great day for Phoenix,\u201d said Mayor Gallego. \u201cWe\ndedicated Terminal 3 to one of our nation\u2019s greatest public servants&#8211;John\nMcCain. We also marked the completion of a multi-year modernization project at\nthe airport. The new concourse will be home to local restaurants, stunning art,\na nursing room, and increased energy efficiency standards. This is another\nimportant investment in our state\u2019s number one economic driver.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cindy McCain also attended the unveiling of her husband\u2019s\nplaque, which will be permanently installed on Level 1 of the terminal bearing\nhis name. \u201cAviation was in John\u2019s blood. The terminal that now bears his name\nin our state\u2019s beloved airport is one small way that his legacy will live on in\nthe place he called home,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Terminal-3-North-Concourseedit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14708\" width=\"307\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Terminal-3-North-Concourseedit.jpg 800w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Terminal-3-North-Concourseedit-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 307px) 100vw, 307px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The north concourse features 10 airline gates and all new\nshops, restaurants and customer amenities such as an animal relief area, a\nnursing room, a family restroom, hearing loop connectivity in the gate areas,\nand access to power from every seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New restaurants include Ajo Al\u2019s, Scramble and The Phoenix\nBeer Company. These restaurants represent local favorites and will give\nvisitors to the Airport a taste of what the area has to offer. New shops\ninclude Discover Arizona with Tech-on-the-Go\/House of Marley and Stellar News +\nMarket with Starbucks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like the previous two components of the Terminal 3 Modernization\nProgram, the north concourse offers incredible views of Phoenix\u2019s desert\nlandscape, including Camelback Mountain, and plenty of natural light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/light.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14707\" width=\"338\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/light.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/light-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 338px) 100vw, 338px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Travelers will also find a public art installation in the\nnorth connector bridge. The piece, titled Phoenix Light Threshold, is designed\nby James Carpenter. The piece features 750 reflective blue and gold aluminum\ncells that amount to a light-gathering beehive along the west wall of the\nbridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The north concourse will welcome the first arriving flights\non February 3. The first departures from the newly renovated concourse will\nbegin on February 4. All airlines will be relocated from Terminal 2 to Terminal\n3 by February 6. With the completion of the Terminal 3 Modernization Program,\nTerminal 2 will close. Terminal 3 will serve Air Canada, Alaska, Boutique Air,\nContour Airlines, Delta, Frontier, Hawaiian, JetBlue, Spirit, Sun Country and\nUnited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project, which cost $590 million was paid for through\nairport revenues such as parking, concessions, and tenant fees.
