{"id":14654,"date":"2020-01-24T20:13:12","date_gmt":"2020-01-24T20:13:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=14654"},"modified":"2020-01-24T20:13:13","modified_gmt":"2020-01-24T20:13:13","slug":"national-park-service-hires-new-regional-aviation-manager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/national-news\/national-park-service-hires-new-regional-aviation-manager\/%20","title":{"rendered":"National Park Service Hires New Regional Aviation Manager"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Park Service regional office serving NPS units\nacross the states of Arizona, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas,\nWyoming, and Utah welcomes Justin Jager as the new regional aviation manager.\nThe position provides oversight and technical expertise in support of the\nregion\u2019s diverse aviation programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJustin will be a great resource for the fire programs in\nour region,\u201d said Regional Fire Management Officer Jay Lusher. \u201cHe has nearly\ntwenty years of experience in aviation operations supporting wildland fire\nsuppression, prescribed fire, law enforcement, search and rescue, and\nall-hazard and resource management.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jager is a FAA and DOI certified UAS remote pilot, has a\ncertificate in Aviation Safety and Security from the University of Southern\nCalifornia\u2019s School of Engineering, and holds a Master of Natural Resources\ndegree with an emphasis in Wildland Fire Ecology and Management from University\nof Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. He also has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural\nResource Management from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jager began his career as an intern with the Student\nConservation Association where he performed trail and backcountry maintenance\nwork at Kenai Fjords and Rocky Mountain National Parks. His volunteer work\nopened the door for a paid trail worker position at Rocky Mountain National\nPark. After working on trail crews for four seasons, Jager joined the Arrowhead\nHotshots crew based out of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI love working outdoors and feeling like the work I do is\nmaking a difference,\u201d noted Jager. \u201cDoing trail work was a great starting\npoint, but when I discovered aviation I knew I had found my true calling.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As he advanced in his career, Jager worked as an assistant\nlead Fire Specialist with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Alaska Fire\nService. Next he served as the assistant helicopter crew supervisor, and later\nas overall supervisor, with BLM\u2019s Ely District Office in Ely, Nevada. He will\nbe coming to his new job from his current position as the Interagency Aviation\nOfficer supporting Grand Canyon National Park, Coconino National Forest, Kaibab\nNational Forest, and the Flagstaff and Verde Valley National Monuments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHaving worked out of the greater Grand Canyon area I\nalready have great relationships with many of the players,\u201d said Jager. \u201cI am\nexcited to work with all the parks across the region and our many partners and\nstakeholders to continue the success of our aviation programs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jager succeeds Steve Sorensen, who served in the position\nfor eight years before retiring.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Park Service regional office serving NPS units across the states of Arizona, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming, and Utah welcomes Justin Jager as the new regional aviation manager.
