{"id":14553,"date":"2020-01-07T15:45:00","date_gmt":"2020-01-07T15:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=14553"},"modified":"2020-01-07T15:45:08","modified_gmt":"2020-01-07T15:45:08","slug":"joyce-carter-elected-chair-of-canadian-airports-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/international-news\/joyce-carter-elected-chair-of-canadian-airports-council\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Joyce Carter Elected Chair of Canadian Airports Council"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Canadian Airports Council (CAC) announced recently that\nJoyce Carter, President and CEO of Halifax International Airport Authority\n(HIAA), has been elected as its new Chair, the first woman to assume the role\nin CAC\u2019s history. Ms. Carter, who has served as CAC\u2019s Vice Chair since 2018,\nsucceeds Sam Samaddar, Airport Director of the Kelowna International Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"176\" height=\"238\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Joyce-carter-2020edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14554\"\/><figcaption><em>Joyce Carter<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Samaddar will assume a new leadership position as\nVice Chair of Airports Council International \u2013 North America (ACI-NA), of which\nthe CAC is a division. ACI-NA represents airports throughout the U.S. and\nCanada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt has been a pleasure to work with Joyce over the past\nfew years during her time as Vice Chair of the CAC,\u201d said Mr. Samaddar. \u201cJoyce\nhas exceptional senior leadership experience and an outstanding record of\nachievement. She has been instrumental in her airport\u2019s successful growth,\npromoting the efficient movement of people and goods, and providing travelers\nand communities with access to more air service options.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms. Carter joined HIAA in 1999 and was appointed\nPresident and CEO in 2014. A graduate of Saint Mary\u2019s University and the\nInstitute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia, she was awarded the\nprestigious designation of Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) in 2012 and\nobtained the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D) designation in 2015.\nPrior to becoming President and CEO, Ms. Carter held a variety of senior\npositions at HIAA, including VP, Finance, Chief Financial Officer and Chief\nStrategy Officer. In addition to her position on the board of the CAC, Ms.\nCarter also serves on the ACI World and ACI-NA boards of directors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms. Carter is also a member of Women in Aviation\nInternational and Women in Aerospace Canada \u2013 Atlantic, and continually\npromotes the integral role women play in the transportation and\naviation\/aerospace industry. An active community leader, Ms. Carter has served\nas a director for several organizations, including Dalhousie University,\nWaterfront Development Corporation Ltd. (now Develop Nova Scotia) and the\nMental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is the recipient of a number of honors and awards,\nincluding Business Leader of the Year (Halifax Business Awards), the Ambassador\nAward, and was named one of Atlantic Canada\u2019s Top 50 CEOs for the past three\nyears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to my new role with the CAC, the\nvoice of Canada\u2019s airport\u2019s, working with government and other industry\nstakeholders to provide travelers with safe, comfortable air access that\nconnects Canada with the world,\u201d said Ms. Carter. \u201cCanada\u2019s airports are an\neconomic success story both nationally and regionally, with airport operations\nsustaining nearly 200,000 direct jobs across Canada.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to serving as chair of the CAC, Ms. Carter\nalso joins the executive committee of ACI-NA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe partnership and collaboration between airports in\nCanada and the U.S. has never been stronger,\u201d said Ms. Carter. \u201cThe\nmultinational nature of ACI-NA means Canadian airports can continue to work\nclosely with colleagues in the U.S. to improve cross border processes, while\nlearning from innovation and best practices being developed at airports around\nthe world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New CAC Vice Chair and Additional Changes to CAC\u2019s Canadian Policy Council<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RJ Steenstra President and CEO of the Fort McMurray\nAirport Authority has been elected as the new Vice Chair of the CAC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, Mr. Steenstra served as Vice Chair of the CAC\nSmall Airport Caucus, where he championed industry priorities and echoed the\nvoice of Canada\u2019s regional airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Steenstra\u2019s industry contributions have also included\nserving as director for the American Association of Airport Executives \u2013 NW\nChapter, director of the ICAO\/ACI World Community of Practice, Vice Chair for\nthe International Association of Airport Executives, and board director for\nACI-NA, where he is currently serving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bob Sartor, President and CEO of the Calgary\nInternational Airport Authority becomes chair of the CAC\u2019s Large Airports\nCaucus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Incoming directors include two industry leaders\nrepresenting the Ontario region: Gene Cabral, Executive Vice President, Billy\nBishop Toronto City Airport and PortsToronto; and Stephen Wilcox, Airport\nManager at the Oshawa Executive Airport and President of Total Aviation &amp;\nAirport Solutions (TAAS). Gordon Duke, President and CEO, Prince George Airport\nAuthority will represent the Pacific region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bernard LeBlanc, President and CEO of Greater Moncton\nRom\u00e9o LeBlanc International Airport, joins colleagues Ms. Carter, Mr. Samaddar\nand Mr. Steenstra on the board of ACI-NA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With their terms ending, Mike Seabrook, President and\nCEO, Greater London International Airport Authority and Chris Wood, Airport\nGeneral Manager, Region of Waterloo, leave the CAC board with the thanks of the\nassociation for their service in advancing the cause of Canada\u2019s airports.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Canadian Airports Council (CAC) announced recently that Joyce Carter, President and CEO of Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA), has been elected as its new Chair, the first woman to assume the role in CAC\u2019s history.
