The new scholarship program was announced earlier this\nyear by Ms. Shaesta Waiz, founder and president of Dreams Soar and an alumna of\nEmbry-Riddle Aeronautical University and its flight training program in Daytona\nBeach, Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/LaurenAbernathy-ERAU-2-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14486\" width=\"245\" height=\"196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LaurenAbernathy-ERAU-2-edit.jpg 499w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LaurenAbernathy-ERAU-2-edit-300x240.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/><figcaption><em>Lauren Abernathy<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cScholarships help make dreams a reality for many of us and\nI am so proud to introduce our new program with Embry-Riddle, where it all\nbegan for me,\u201d commented Waiz. \u201cI congratulate Lauren as our first scholarship\nwinner. Her dedication and passion for aviation is inspiring and she represents\nthe Dreams Soar mission of supporting outstanding women seeking careers in the\nSTEM field of study. We are excited to bring Lauren to the NBAA Regional Forum\nin West Palm Beach on January 29, with the help of our good friends and Dream\nSoar supporters, Jet Support Services, Inc. (JSSI), where we will make the\nscholarship award presentation with many other young aviation students in the\naudience. This is just the beginning of our Dreams Soar scholarship program and\nwe look forward to offering many more scholarships to amazing women in the\nfuture.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abernathy is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in aeronautical\nscience with a minor in aviation safety at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.\nShe earned her private pilot certificate in 2018 and is currently finishing her\ninstrument rating, with immediate plans to pursue commercial, certified flight\ninstructor (CFI) and certified flight instructor instrument (CFII) ratings.\nIntroduced to flying by an uncle who flies for a major airline, Abernathy has\nalso met many inspirational aviators through her volunteer activities with\nWomen in Aviation. She works part time at the university as a flight supervisor\nand volunteers as a flight line assimilation program secretary, where she\nmentors new students. Abernathy is a member of Women in Aviation International,\nDaytona Beach Chapter; the Ninety-Nines, Daytona Beach Chapter; Ladies in\nFlight Training (LIFT); and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am honored to be the first recipient of this new Dreams\nSoar scholarship and appreciate the financial support that will go toward my\nflight training,\u201d commented Abernathy. \u201cI have followed Shaesta\u2019s entire\njourney for many years, so it is very exciting to now have this inspirational\nconnection with her and the Dreams Soar organization. I sincerely thank you all\nvery much for this scholarship. It will go a long way to helping me follow my\ndream of becoming a professional pilot!\u201d&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first Dreams Soar Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University\nscholarship will be awarded to Lauren Abernathy at the NBAA Regional Forum\nevent in West Palm Beach, Florida, on January 29, as part of the opening\ngeneral session. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0566edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14487\" width=\"141\" height=\"193\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0566edit.jpg 700w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0566edit-218x300.jpg 218w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 141px) 100vw, 141px\" \/><figcaption><em>Shaesta Waiz<\/em><br><em>SAJ\u00c2\u00a0File\u00c2\u00a0Photo<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Dreams Soar, Inc., was established in 2016 to inspire the\nnext generation of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and\naviation professionals. In May 2017, Dreams Soar launched a global flight\naround the world where Ms. Shaesta Waiz, the founder and president, flew 25,000\nnautical miles in an A36 Beechcraft Bonanza to 22 countries. During that\nflight, she spoke to more than 3,000 children about the value of pursuing\ncareers in STEM and aviation. Upon completing the flight in October 2017, Waiz\nbecame the youngest woman to fly solo around the world in a single-engine\naircraft. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the completion of the global flight, Dreams Soar has\ncontinued its global outreach by collaborating with over 29 organizations, in\nnine different countries, where they hosted 26 outreach events to inspire the\nnext generation.
