The 75th WWII Commemoration Committee\nwill spearhead the bookend events: The Arsenal of Democracy tribute remembering\nthe end of war in Europe, May 8, 2020; and the events marking the end of war in\nthe Pacific, September 2, 2020, in Washington, DC and Oahu, Hawaii,\nrespectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/\\wp-content\\uploads\/Peter Bunce GAMA2011 at WACedit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3108\" width=\"123\" height=\"182\"\/><figcaption><em>Pete Bunce<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is significant that we ask for the public\u2019s engagement\nwith 75th WWII Commemoration fund raising today, remembering not only the \u201cdate\nwhich will live in infamy,\u201d but also the 100th birthday of nationally\nrecognized WWII veteran, Tuskegee Airman, Col. Charles McGee. As part of a five-day slate of\neducational and commemorative activities in and around the nation\u2019s capital,\nthe flyover will coincide with a ceremony for veterans at the National World War\nII Memorial, hosted by the Friends of the National World War II Memorial. It\nwill consist of over 100 vintage warbirds of various types flying over the\nNational Mall in 24 separate, historically sequenced formations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On September 2, 1945, the Japanese signed the surrender\ndocuments ending World War II on the deck of the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. The\nBattleship Missouri Memorial and Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum will commemorate\nthe 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in the Pacific with another five-day\nschedule of educational programs and ceremonies.
