The North Carolina Department of Transportation\u2019s (NCDOT)\ninnovative drone program has earned another award, this time for the use of\ndrones to deliver medical supplies and the positive environmental impact the\ninitiative will have in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cleantech Innovation Awards was organized this year to\nrecognize and honor the individuals and organizations driving cleantech\ninnovation and deployment in the Triangle region. The Research Triangle\nCleantech Cluster, an industry-led initiative focused on accelerating clean\ntechnology, organized the awards program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NCDOT program won the Transportation Innovation Award,\nawarded to a transportation or mobility project that uses innovative cleantech\nsolutions to create positive impacts for environment, economy, and residents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis award proves just how much potential this program\nhas,\u201d Said Basil Yap, manager of NCDOT\u2019s drone program. \u201cNot only will it\ntransform the future of medical logistics, we could see a lasting positive\nimpact on our environment as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NCDOT\u2019s pioneering use of drones in medical deliveries is\nthe first step towards the more regular use of drones to deliver goods of all\nkinds in the future, potentially removing vehicles from the roads and\ndecreasing greenhouse gas emissions. Since taking flight in March of this year,\nmedical samples and supplies have been delivered more than 1,600 times by drone\nacross the WakeMed campus in Raleigh.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
