{"id":14278,"date":"2019-11-19T19:13:54","date_gmt":"2019-11-19T19:13:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=14278"},"modified":"2019-11-19T19:14:52","modified_gmt":"2019-11-19T19:14:52","slug":"faa-seeks-comments-on-draft-environmental-assessment-for-las-vegas-metroplex-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/neveda\/faa-seeks-comments-on-draft-environmental-assessment-for-las-vegas-metroplex-project\/%20","title":{"rendered":"FAA Seeks Comments on Draft Environmental Assessment for Las Vegas Metroplex Project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking public\ncomment on the Draft Environmental Assessment (Draft EA) for the Las Vegas\nMetroplex Project, which proposes to use cutting-edge satellite navigation to\nmove air traffic more efficiently through Southern Nevada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the airspace around Las Vegas is already safe, it\u2019s\nnot as efficient as it could be. The FAA proposes to address the inefficiencies\n(PDF) by implementing new routes that are more direct, automatically separated\nfrom each other, and have efficient climb and descent profiles. The potential\nbenefits of these routes can include reductions in pilot-controller communications,\nmiles flown, fuel burn and CO2 emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project includes new and replacement arrival and\ndeparture routes for McCarran International Airport, Henderson Executive\nAirport and North Las Vegas Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FAA released the project\u2019s Draft EA on Nov.18 for public\nreview. There will be a 32-day public comment period on the document from\nNov.18 through Dec. 20, 2019.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The document is posted on the Las Vegas Metroplex website.\nThe Draft EA indicates the project would not have any significant environmental\nimpacts under federal environmental law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also available on the website are Google Earth images that\nallow people to compare current and proposed routes, and see the noise analysis\nthe FAA conducted at more than 172,000 grid points throughout the project\nGeneral Study Area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FAA will host five public workshops for the Draft EA\nbetween Monday, Dec. 9 and Friday, Dec. 13, 2019. The workshops will feature\ninformational videos and display boards that show existing and proposed routes\nand explain the inefficiencies in the current system. FAA representatives will\nbe available to answer questions and demonstrate the Google Earth features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshops will be open-house format, where people can\nattend any time during the posted times to learn about the project.
