Garrett will be formally enshrined at a September\n2020, ceremony in Dayton, OH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJoan has effectively used her experience, expertise and\nempathy to create an extraordinary company that promotes safety and saves\nlives,\u201d said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. \u201cWe congratulate her on this\nwell-deserved honor, bestowed by the National Aviation Hall of Fame.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The founder of MedAire, Garrett is an industry pioneer in\ncritical-care medical response utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and trained\nprofessionals. The company directs real-time safety services to thousands annually\nthroughout aviation. More than 30 years after she launched MedAire in 1985, the\ncompany continues to provide lifesaving products and services for both the\naviation and maritime sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Garrett, who served as CEO of MedAire until 2006, used\naviation medicine statistics and real-world experience to advise the aviation\nindustry on health and safety-related issues. Her congressional testimony in\n2001 is credited with prompting the FAA to issue a final rule requiring U.S.\nairlines to carry automated external defibrillators and enhanced emergency\nmedical kits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier in her career, Garrett served as a critical-care\nflight nurse and chief medical officer. She has authored numerous whitepapers\non health and medical subjects, from the use of inflight defibrillators to\nissues concerning bioterrorism, and she is often quoted as an authority on such\ntopics in national and international media outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A member of NBAA for more than 30 years, Garrett has served\nas both chair and vice chair of the association\u2019s Advisory Council, as well as\na member of NBAA\u2019s Board of Directors. She received NBAA\u2019s Meritorious Service\nto Aviation Award in 2017.
