{"id":14043,"date":"2019-10-22T12:45:25","date_gmt":"2019-10-22T12:45:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=14043"},"modified":"2019-10-22T12:45:27","modified_gmt":"2019-10-22T12:45:27","slug":"12th-annual-al-conklin-and-bill-de-decker-scholarship-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/aviation-education\/12th-annual-al-conklin-and-bill-de-decker-scholarship-announced\/%20","title":{"rendered":"12th Annual Al Conklin and Bill de Decker Scholarship Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Conklin &amp; de Decker in association with the National\nBusiness Aviation Association (NBAA), has announced the recipient of the annual\nAl Conklin and Bill de Decker Business Aviation Management Scholarship is\nConnyr Bennett of West Point, Utah. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NBAA Charities and Conklin &amp; de Decker annually award\n$5,000 to a carefully selected undergraduate student who is enrolled in an\naviation management program at an NBAA or University Aviation Association\nmember school. Bennett is a senior at Utah Valley University, where he is\nmajoring in aviation science and expects to graduate in May 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bennett\u2019s dream to become an aviator began as a child but\nthoughts of flying faded and were replaced with the possibility of a career\npath as a doctor. After spending two years living in Eastern Europe and working\nas a missionary, Bennett returned stateside with a renewed interest in\naviation. Upon his return, he started working as a flight attendant, then\nobtained his associates degree and started flight school. He is now a gate\nagent with an airline and has a renewed dream to fly for a company in business\naviation. Bennett holds a private pilot license with an instrument rating and\nlooks forward to flying business owners and their employees around the world to\nhelp them grow their business.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEvery year, this scholarship enables us to invest in the\nnext generation of business aviation professionals and we are very happy to be\nrecognizing Connyr in 2019. He is a determined student and very deserving of\nthis award,\u201d stated Bill de Decker, co-founder of Conklin &amp; de Decker. \u201cOn\nbehalf of the Conklin &amp; de Decker and JSSI family, we congratulate Connyr\nand wish him all the best as he pursues a career in the business aviation industry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The scholarship was initially created to honor the memory of\nAl Conklin, a U.S. Air Force veteran and business aviation leader for more than\n60 years. Conklin\u2019s career took him to business aviation where he sold aircraft\nfor several companies and, in partnership with Bill de Decker, created the\nfirst Aircraft Cost Evaluator program and founded Conklin &amp; de Decker.
