{"id":14040,"date":"2019-10-22T00:36:55","date_gmt":"2019-10-22T00:36:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=14040"},"modified":"2019-10-22T00:36:57","modified_gmt":"2019-10-22T00:36:57","slug":"nbaa-civic-leaders-welcome-conventions-sustainably-fueled-aircraft-display","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/national-news\/nbaa-civic-leaders-welcome-conventions-sustainably-fueled-aircraft-display\/%20","title":{"rendered":"NBAA, Civic Leaders Welcome Convention\u2019s Sustainably Fueled Aircraft Display"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Civic and business leaders today welcomed the return of the\nworld\u2019s largest business aviation trade show to Las Vegas, and welcomed the\nfirst-time availability of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) at Henderson\nExecutive Airport (HND) as part of the event\u2019s aircraft display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NBAA\u2019s Business Aviation Convention &amp; Exhibition\n(NBAA-BACE) opens this week, and runs Tuesday to Thursday, Oct. 22\u201324, at HND\nand the Las Vegas Convention Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the show\u2019s week-long focus on sustainability, all\nturbine airplanes refueling at the airport will take on some amount of SAF\nbefore departure. The fuel is a non-fossil power source that can reduce\naviation\u2019s carbon lifecycle emissions by up to 80%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After planes refuel and depart at the show\u2019s close on\nThursday, Oct. 24, an estimated 150,000 gallons of SAF are expected to have\nbeen pumped at HND \u2013 thanks to a collaborative effort between the airport,\nlocal fuel suppliers and show organizers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI applaud this effort to reduce the aviation emissions\nfootprint in Southern Nevada, and look forward to the continued implementation\nof other sustainability initiatives throughout our Clark County Aviation\nSystem,\u201d said Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft. \u201cThese first steps toward\na more environmentally conscious aviation operation would not be possible\nwithout strong partnerships within the industry. We appreciate NBAA\u2019s leadership\nin this area and its long-standing focus on sustainability.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The business aviation industry has long been committed to\nsustainability, including through the development and adoption of SAF, and this\nyear\u2019s NBAA-BACE will feature sustainability programming and events throughout\nthe show. View a lineup of planned sustainability-focused events at 2019\nNBAA-BACE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSustainability, including the availability and use of SAF,\nis key to the future of business aviation,\u201d said NBAA President and CEO Ed\nBolen. \u201cWe applaud airport and county leaders for partnering with us to make\nSAF available at Henderson Executive Airport this week. This initiative\ndemonstrates that as it becomes more available, and people are increasingly\naware of it, demand for use of the fuels will continually increase as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bringing about 25,000 attendees to the city, NBAA-BACE is\nexpected to generate a total economic impact of $40.5 million over the course\nof the week, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith more than 24,000 meetings conducted in Las Vegas every\nyear, business aviation has an important impact on the local economy,\u201d said\nSteve Hill, CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. \u201cAs a\ncommunity and an organization, we also share a mutual focus on sustainability.\nSouthern Nevada is a leading example of water conservation efforts using less\nwater today than we did thirty years ago.
