Jim Justice, Secretary of Transportation Byrd White and Aeronautics\nCommission Director Sean Hill flew across the state on Monday to announce\nthousands of dollars in aeronautics grant funding to 11 state airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The grant award ceremonies were held at Huntington Tri-State\nAirport in Wayne County, Yeager Airport in Kanawha County, and Mercer County\nAirport near Bluefield \u2013 three of 11 airports statewide that have been awarded\na combined total of $677,483 in grant funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each of the grants come from Special Revenue, provided by\nthe Aviation Fuel Tax. These grants will also make it possible for airports to\nsecure $12,194,700 in funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAirports are our lifeblood \u2013 they\u2019re the number one thing\nwhen it comes to growth in our communities,\u201d Gov. Justice said. \u201cAnd so, what\nwe\u2019ve tried to do, is we\u2019ve tried to target our grant amounts so that we can\nthen obtain additional federal amounts. That could turn this into big dollars\nand make things happen within our own state, within our own facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have to put a paramount on safety. We\u2019ve got to\nabsolutely know that the economic engines of our communities are our airports.\nAnd we\u2019ve got to have safe, good, quality airports. That\u2019s all there is to it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the support of Gov. Justice, the WVAC has now been able\nto award a combined total of $1,029,776 this fiscal year alone, with each of\nthe state\u2019s 24 airports receiving a portion of the grant funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, this month, the Governor issued a proclamation\nthat formally recognizes October as General Aviation Appreciation Month in West\nVirginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Sean-Hill-WV.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13996\" width=\"158\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Sean-Hill-WV.jpg 400w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Sean-Hill-WV-240x300.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 158px) 100vw, 158px\" \/><figcaption><em>Sean Hill<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Aeronautics Commission has witnessed an unprecedented\nlevel of support from Governor Justice and our federal partners,\u201d WVAC Director\nSean Hill said. \u201cWe\u2019re thrilled that this latest batch of grant funding touches\nairports in every corner of the state. And with all the recent investment, the\nfuture of West Virginia\u2019s air system is looking extremely bright.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The complete list of WVAC grant awards is as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Appalachian Regional Airport \u2013 Mingo County                                            WVAC Funds from Fuel Tax: $13,537                                                              Funds will be used to rehabilitate a combined total of 183,300 linear feet of the airport\u2019s runway, taxiway, and apron.                                             Additional FAA funding: $243,663<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Braxton County Airport                                                                                     WVAC Funds from Fuel Tax: $46,779                                                              Funds will be used to construct an 8-unit T-Hangar.                             Additional FAA funding: $842,026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fairmont Municipal Airport \u2013 Marion County                                              WVAC Funds from Fuel Tax: $5,100                                                                 Funds will be used on obstruction removal efforts.                            Additional FAA funding: $91,800<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grant County Airport                                                                                          WVAC Funds from Fuel Tax: $4,722                                                                 Funds will be used to design a 6-unit T-Hangar for future construction. Additional FAA funding: $85,000<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kee Field Airport \u2013 Wyoming County                                                              WVAC Funds from Fuel Tax: $19,845                                                              Funds will be used to rehabilitate the airport\u2019s runway.                             Additional FAA funding: $357,211<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mercer County Airport                                                                                       WVAC Funds from Fuel Tax: $46,029                                                               Funds will be used to install a perimeter fence.                                       Additional FAA funding: $828,528<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morgantown Municipal Airport \u2013 Monongalia County                               WVAC Funds from Fuel Tax: $56,470                                                               Funds will be used on several various airfield upgrade projects.     Additional FAA funding: $1,016,467<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Philippi\/Barbour County Regional Airport                                                    WVAC Funds from Fuel Tax: $4,944                                                                 Funds will be used to construct a Box Hangar facility.                        Additional FAA funding: $88,991<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Huntington Tri-State Airport \u2013 Wayne County                                              WVAC Funds from Fuel Tax: $325,072                                                            Funds will be used to make improvements to airport drainage and the runway safety area.
