{"id":13937,"date":"2019-10-07T21:47:32","date_gmt":"2019-10-07T21:47:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=13937"},"modified":"2019-10-07T21:47:33","modified_gmt":"2019-10-07T21:47:33","slug":"faa-successfully-completes-final-ads-b-milestone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/national-news\/faa-successfully-completes-final-ads-b-milestone\/%20","title":{"rendered":"FAA Successfully Completes Final ADS-B Milestone"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) completed its\nfinal implementation milestone with Automatic Dependent Surveillance \u2013\nBroadcast (ADS-B), the state-of-the-art surveillance system that enables air\ntraffic controllers to track aircraft with greater accuracy and reliability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The last two of the 155 airports to receive ADS-B,\nAkron-Canton Airport and Mansfield Lahm Regional Airport, both in Ohio, became\noperational last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the FAA, this brings the operational rollout of ADS-B baseline services to a successful conclusion, on schedule and within budget, well in advance of Jan. 1, 2020, the date by which aircraft flying in certain, controlled airspace must be equipped with the technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ADS-B is now operational at air traffic control facilities\nacross the country. These include airports, Terminal Radar Approach Control\nFacilities, which handle busy airspace around airports, and en route\nfacilities, which handle high altitude traffic. All are using ADS-B as the\npreferred source of surveillance, which provides improved situation awareness\nto both pilots and controllers, among many other benefits and improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ADS-B also enables more accurate tracking of airplanes and\nairport vehicles on runways and taxiways, increasing safety and efficiency. The\nnew system significantly improves surveillance capability in areas with\ngeographic challenges, like mountains or over water.
